???? Dolo’s Path Toward a Greener Future Nestled in the southeast of the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Dolo is an important player in the economic and infrastructural network of the Province of Venice. With 15,000 residents, its economy thrives on a blend of industry, commerce, and services, particularly within the renowned Riviera del Brenta footwear district. Dolo has embraced sustainable urban development, aligning with regional policies to balance growth with environmental responsibility. Since adopting its Strategic Masterplan in 2018, the municipality has taken decisive steps to limit urban expansion, preserve agricultural land, and ensure that major projects meet environmental assessment standards. These measures reflect a broader commitment to responsible land use and long-term sustainability. On the energy front, Dolo has been committed to emissions reduction since 2012 through its Sustainable Energy Action Plan, aiming for a 21% CO? cut by 2020 compared to 2005 levels. Efforts have focused on increasing energy efficiency, reducing per capita consumption, and engaging the local community. By 2016, emissions had already dropped by 11%, reversing the previous trend and keeping the municipality on track to meet its targets. Looking ahead, Dolo is setting even more ambitious climate goals, aiming for a 45% reduction in emissions by 2030 and 50% by 2050. Achieving this will require stronger expertise within local administration, better collaboration across departments, and active community engagement. Securing funding through national and international programs will also be key to sustaining momentum in the energy transition. Dolo’s progress demonstrates how strategic planning, environmental awareness, and collective action can drive meaningful change toward a more sustainable future. ??? #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #Dolo #GreenFuture #Veneto #UrbanInnovation

Scenario development workshop in Horn (Austria) On 4 December 2024, the second workshop on the topic of ‘Scenarios for the energy future’ took place in Horn. After a brief review of workshop 1, selected renewable energy potentials (rooftop photovoltaics, ground-mounted photovoltaics, small-scale wind power and wastewater energy) were presented and intensively discussed with the participants in small groups. At the same time, participants were able to analyse the spatial effects of renewable energy plants for electricity and heat generation and find out how many plants are needed to cover the region’s energy demand from renewable energies in the ‘Energy Transition Game’. The participants then prioritised and clustered the results of the workshop 1 according to the urgency of implementation. Important topics were the various options for electricity and heat generation, as well as suitable locations for renewable energy generation. Another workshop will be held in Horn in spring 2025 to continue working on the clean energy transition strategy.
