Today it was an honor to witness the dedication of the Willson Smith III Footwear Design Studio at HBCU, Pensole Lewis in Detroit Michigan.
Hundreds of people from PLC Detroit and Nike along with students from the Future Sole program and Wilson's family gathered (in-person and virtually) to commemorate the space honoring the industry's first Black footwear designer.
Wilson Smith, your contributions have paved the way as many 'firsts' and this studio is a physical manifestation of your lifetime commitment to empowering next gen creatives and athletes.
For the last 3 years I have had the privilege of working side by side with you and have gleaned a few important nuggets—
Empathy is our greatest human potential.
Small consistent acts [of kindness, mentorship, gratitude, optimism, care] built over a lifetime can make a huge impact.
Put people first. The work second. Greatness will follow.
Thank you for being you. Your gratitude and joy is infectious.
Congratulations Wilson Smith, Athony Reed, Angel Buckens, Dr. D'Wayne Edwards and the entire team at Pensole Lewis .
The future that's being created is nothing less than extraordinary.
