关于我们
Play On Philly (POP) cultivates emotional, cognitive, and behavioral skills necessary for life by providing high quality music education to underserved children in Philadelphia. We believe that intensive music education is a vehicle to develop life-long academic and social skills. Many Philadelphia students do not have access to music education. Our mission is to provide tuition-free, intensive after-school music education to students who would not otherwise have access. POP does not ask students to audition, nor are they required to have any previous musical experience. Each of our students from K-12th grade are loaned at no cost one of fourteen instruments such as a harp, flute, clarinet, cello, and violin. Students will each receive approximately 500 hours of training and performance opportunities during the year. Because many of our students enter POP programming as many as 3 grade levels behind, a creative all-day summer camp is offered in July, in addition to school-year lessons, to protect the positive advancements they’ve gained through POP and prepare them for a successful return to school in the fall. Instruction is delivered by a talented corps of professional musicians and educators who realize their gifts can be a powerful force of change in the most vulnerable and marginalized populations throughout Philadelphia. The organization is led by a committed group of professionals and governed by a passionate Board of Directors who are eager to see the growth and sustainability of POP.

We’re celebrating world-renowned contralto Marian Anderson’s birthday today! Marian was the first African American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Our rising musicians of the Marian Anderson Young Artist Program honored her legacy by spending a music-filled day in the Big Apple last month! They began their day with a tour of the The Juilliard School where they also met up with MAYAP Alumnus and current Juilliard student Rhyuhn Green. Our rising musicians caught the Metropolitan Opera’s matinee performance of Verdi’s Aida featuring Angel Blue. After the performance, they had the incredible opportunity to meet Angel and maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin and tour the Met Orchestra Musicians' pit and backstage! They ended the day by seeing a performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center featuring Wynton Marsalis followed by a meet and greet with Wynton after the performance! Thank you to Juilliard Preparatory’s Weston Sprott, Met Orchestra Violinist Zo? Martin-Doike, and Philadelphia Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin for helping to make this an inspiring day of artistry for our rising musicians! #risingmusicians #mariananderson #andersonartists #opera #singer #musiceducation

Our beginner cellists at our Music Center at ICS West shined bright in the classroom as they worked on “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” with Teacher Marcela! Our studio classes are an important part of our young musician’s learning experience and provide them with the opportunity to sharpen their ensemble and technical skills as a section. #playonphilly #immersedinmusic #cello #musiceducation #beginnermusicians #youngmusicians
