We envision AI tools supporting students through personalized learning, adaptive tutoring, and automated feedback, ultimately empowering them to reach their full potential. We also believe AI can aid educators in efficient and innovative ways. A big thanks to Yusuf Ahmad, co-founder of Playlab, for leading our team in exploring these amazing opportunities for Distinctive Schools to develop our own chatbots. ??

Have you heard of Playlab AI? If not, you have to check it out. I love their focus on building tools for educators that allow for the responsible use of AI! It allowed me to build two AI chatbots tailored to specific needs in minutes. I can’t wait to work on it more to fine-tune and test those tools!

Have you ever unpacked state learning standards? There are many steps to the process that might look something like this: research, research, coffee break, a little confusion and frustration, research, then you run out of time, and months go by and you realize, "Oh, I need to finish unpacking those standards". Then back to square one. Maybe that's just my experience. Unpacking standards, although taxing, is a cornerstone in a viable and guaranteed curriculum. I visit my standards every year, every unit, and very often before I start planning lessons, activities, and assessments. They are where I start and where I end. At a recent staff meeting, my group was tasked with summarizing a chapter of a book we read as a school this year. Our chapter was all about setting learning expectations, unpacking standards, and communicating them with other educators to reduce "curriculum chaos". But sometimes, unpacking those standards is chaos itself. I wanted my colleagues to leave with something actionable from our presentation, so I created a chatbot in Playlab AI in about 20 minutes to help teachers unpack their standards. We'll be joined by Steven Johnson from Google NotebookLM, Ann-Katherine Kimble from XQ Institute, and Ian Serlin from Playlab AI to discuss how best to guide young change-makers in using safe AI tools to enhance their authentic, fact-based research. Following the panel, all workshop participants will have time to explore Google Notebook LM and Playlab AI's new AI research tools to build better research skills for their project-based work.
