????? Today marks two months since our groundbreaking ceremony at Black Hollow Solar, Northern Colorado's largest solar site to date! The project is set to start commercial operation in 2025, delivering approximately 367,000 megawatt-hours of energy to Platte River's system annually—enough to power over 36,000 homes! With Black Hollow Solar, we're powering forward toward a sustainable future, guided by our 2018 Resource Diversification Policy. This project is a key part of our plan to transition to a clean energy future, replacing our coal-fired power plant by the end of 2029. Reclaimed water from the City of Fort Collins Drake Water Reclamation Facility arrives at Hamilton Reservoir through a 26-mile-long pipeline. Using reclaimed wastewater instead of high-quality treated drinking water conserves vital water resources for local communities! ???? Celebrating World Water Week at Platte River Power Authority! ???? Water isn't just a resource; it's the lifeblood of our operations at Rawhide Energy Station! From powering turbines to cooling systems, here's how water plays a starring role: ?? Reclaimed water revolution: Since day one, we've used reclaimed water from the City of Fort Collins' Drake Water Reclamation Facility. We pump about 1 billion gallons a year—2.75 million gallons daily—through our condenser to cool and recycle steam in our boiler system. This innovative approach has set a benchmark in Colorado for industrial water reuse. ? Driving electricity: Our coal unit, Rawhide Unit 1, relies on high-quality demineralized water for condensate, feedwater, and steam systems. With pressures reaching 2000 psi and temperatures soaring to 1000°F, we keep a vigilant eye on water quality to protect against corrosion and equipment damage. ?? Boosting power: At our natural gas turbines, we use demineralized water for inlet fogging, a cutting-edge technique that boosts power output in hot, dry conditions to maintain delivery of reliable energy to our owner communities.
