At the Thinkers50 Awards Gala 2023, we ranked Marshall Van Alstyne & Geoff Parker among the 50 leading thinkers in business and management. Originators of the concept of the inverted firm, which argues that value is increasingly created outside the organization rather than internally, Marshall and Geoff are the authors of the book ‘Platform Revolution,’ co-written with Sangeet Paul Choudary. The book is a comprehensive analysis of how platforms use technology to match producers and consumers in a multi-sided marketplace. An indispensable guide, it charts the brilliant future of platforms and reveals how they will irrevocably alter the lives and careers of millions. Van Alstyne is the Questrom Professor of Management at Boston University and a Digital Fellow at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy. Parker is a Professor of Engineering at Dartmouth College and serves as Director of the Master of Engineering Management Program. In addition, he is a visiting scholar at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a researcher at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy where he leads platform industry research studies. Geoff and Marshall were ranked in 2021 and 2019, and they received the Thinkers50 2019 Digital Thinking Award.
