August. Geneva. See you there. Great news. The UN has confirmed that the next round of negotiations for a Global Plastics Treaty will take place on the 5th to 14th August in Geneva, Switzerland, dubbed INC-5.2. In December, talks for a historic treaty to end plastic pollution came crashing down without a final agreement. While some nations, backed by oil lobbyists, pushed for only recycling targets, over 100 Member States refused to compromise and called for a meaningful treaty with a global plastic reduction target. This was promising. In the past, countries may have settled for a diluted treaty but now we know this is not enough. In the next five months, we urge decision makers to listen to the scientists, and understand that plastic is no longer worth the risk on health and the economy. We will continue banging the drum on the truth about plastic and calling for an ambitious treaty that cuts production. #PlasticsTreaty #PlasticPollution #UnitedNations
