On the heels of a successful Plasma Protein Forum in Washington, DC, I'm proud to share that we have published a new Letter to the Editor in Vox Sanguinis. This piece, titled, Consistent Supply of Global Plasma for Global Patients, highlights the critical role a stable plasma supply plays in improving patient outcomes worldwide and disputes concerns and misconceptions around donor health and compensation. #plasmaproteinforum wrapped up in Washington DC today, highlighting crucial insights: - **Believe Limited's Impact**: Patrick James Lynch initiated day-1 by showcasing Believe Limited's efforts in raising awareness about Hemophilia in regions like India and Africa. As a patient himself, Patrick's firsthand experience and transformation of challenges into advocacy are commendable. - **Early Diagnosis Vital for PID**: Timely and precise diagnosis of #PID significantly impacts patients' lives. Recognition to patient advocacy groups (HAE, Alpha-1 Foundation, VWD) for their vital work in the US, Canada, and Europe. Urgent focus is required in #India and #LMICs where Ig usage is notably low, emphasizing the critical need for improved diagnosis. - **Resilience in Supply Chain**: The ongoing Saline shortage in the US post hurricane Helene underscores the vulnerability of the plasma supply chain to external factors. Acknowledgment to HemaSource, Inc and collaborators for their efforts. Gratitude to Stefaan van der spiegel from the European Commission for engagement. Eliminating dual inspections of US FDA approved plasma centers by EMA state authorities is crucial to streamline the supply process and enhance accessibility for European patients. #ppta #plasma #pdmps #plasmaprotein

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to join my colleague, Lisa Butler, President & CEO of the GBS|CIDP Foundation International for a conversation about the patient experience, diagnostic journey, and challenges to access to treatment, moderated by Anita Brikman, President & CEO of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA). I am so grateful to Anita and PPTA for the invitation to represent the Immune Deficiency Foundation!

On Day 2 at the #PlasmaProteinForum, PPTA President and CEO Anita Brikman moderated a panel with GBS|CIDP Foundation International President and CEO Lisa Butler and Immune Deficiency Foundation President and CEO Jorey Berry on the importance of partnerships. Takeaways included both leaders agreeing, "As the patient experience evolves, we owe it to the patient community to evolve with them.” The final panel, led by Bob Wojcik, stefaan van der spiegel, Ambassador Jayme White, and Joe Malory, explored supply chain sufficiency. Panelists acknowledged that "supply disruptions could harm patients" and that disaster plans must be in place to protect patient access.

Did you know that most people will benefit from a plasma product as some point in their lives, given their use in emergency medicine as well as therapeutics? Plasma is not as "niche" a field as one may think. It was an honor to be the #PlasmaProteinForum's opening day keynote speaker, to talk about the impact plasma-derived therapies have had on my life- and lives of many I know; to highlight their importance in an era of personalized, optimized patient care, and to urge attendees to think deeply about "the plasma story" they want to tell heading into 2025. Thank you, Anita Brikman, Ilana Ostrin, Julie Birkofer, and everyone at the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) for the invitation, and more importantly, for all you do to ensure that a safe and effective plasma supply is available. Congratulations on the 2024 Forum, and thank you to all the members of industry who are dedicated to the plasma space. #plasma #blooddisorders #raredisease #bleedingdisorders #patienteducation #patientadvocacy
The 2024 #PlasmaProteinForum in underway, bringing powerful stories and knowledge-sharing to the plasma community!
