We PYT-Lumbini of World Food Forum Nepal Chapter had an privilege to engage in the Soil test ?? campaign organized by PlantVillage Nepal supported by Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Current and Emerging Threats to Crops (CETC IL) in the Tilottama Municipality at November 26th 2024.?? The program was absolutely amazing ?? because interactive farmers from local community were excited to see the status of their soil health. In the campaign we tested the different elements of the soil basically ph, organic carbon, magnesium, potassium ,Nitrogen and sulphur. Almost more than 30 soil samples were collected from the different farmers field and about 15 soil samples were tested on the spot and we were able to provide the reports of the soil samples . As per the results we found most of the soil are alkaline in nature according to the ph test, amount of organic carbon in the soil is mostly from low to medium whereas for the calcium and magnesium levels is mostly high in maximum soil samples and the amount of nitrogen and sulfur is mostly from low to Medium . This campaign able to succeed to make the farmers aware about their soil health and at the end of the program they knew that it is important to timely test the soil health for the good agricultural production . PlantVillage is participating in the AfriNutriForest workshop in Kilifi County, Kenya. The five-day gathering brings together partners from Germany, Kenya and Senegal to assess the progress of the project, identify key achievements, address challenges, and shape strategies for future growth. The AfriNutriForest project focuses on intensifying vegetable production under fruit trees, promoting sustainable agroforestry systems in Western and Eastern Africa. The workshop will ensure collaboration with stakeholders to exchange knowledge and insights and visiting of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) groups to evaluate accomplishments. As a crucial step in the mass production of #parasitoids in the laboratory, our team carefully rears fall armyworm larvae on a natural diet primarily consisting of tender, fresh maize leaves. To prevent infections, the diet is managed in specialized containers. Once the larvae reach the pupation stage, they are transferred to cages specifically designed for emergence and oviposition.

For over a decade BBTV has been spreading throughout Tanzania, with no action being taken to actually stop the spread. PlantVillage is prone to action. It's so impressive to see how fast they move and the scope of their impact.

This initiative is a strategic step in combating Banana Bunchy Top Disease (BBTD), fostering economic growth, and enhancing food security in the region.

PlantVillage Tanzania officers, alongside farmer Elias Nagana from Buhigwe Ward—one of the beneficiaries of clean banana seedlings—recently participated in a radio program on Kwiraza FM in Kasulu. During the session, they highlighted the vital role of clean banana seedlings in combating Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) and shared practical insights on how farmers can access high-quality seedlings.
