Most people are already familiar with products like oat milk and almond butter, but what about barley yoghurt? Scientists at Plant & Food Research are developing a new plant-based product: yoghurt made from barley grain.? In this week's Sciest podcast, scientist and podcast host Rebecca Campbell speaks to food scientist Gert-Jan Moggré about this exciting project. The research involves trials using plant-based bacterial fermentation to create a delicious and well-textured yoghurt alternative. This dairy-free yoghurt offers numerous benefits, including being high in dietary fibre, producing less waste, and being more sustainable to produce. We’re delighted to see that IP rights in China were upheld for the Scilate variety this week, commercialised around the world by T&G Global Limited. Protecting IP is important to everyone in the supply chain – breeders, growers, marketers, and consumers. It underscores the significant investments made, gives a foundation for success and delivering impact across the supply chain, and driving ongoing innovation.??
Growing the footprint of our premium apple portfolio requires us to vigorously protect and defend our intellectual property for the benefit of breeders, growers and retailers alike, as well as our own operations. As part of this, we welcome the recent Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China judgement upholding an earlier landmark ruling regarding the protection of our Scilate apple plant variety rights. This ruling is especially significant given the years of investment in research and development needed to develop new plant varieties. It provides confidence to horticultural businesses like ours and assures Chinese consumers that they are purchasing legitimate, locally-grown ENVY? apples. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dAb_F6Gy
