Plant Powered Youth Steering Committee

A youth-led committee advocating for climate-friendly, plant-based foods for the Earth, animals, and people.??????????
关于我们
The Plant Powered Youth Steering Committee (YSC), an initiative from Chilis on Wheels and Friends of the Earth, is the youth arm of the Healthy Future Students and Earth Coalition. Founded in 2022, the YSC advocates for plant-based, climate-friendly, and culturally appropriate options in K-12 schools through grassroots advocacy, policy engagement, and education. We believe K-12 school food service should provide nutritious, ethically sourced, culturally appropriate, and sustainable foods to all students, including plant-based entrees and plant-based milk options so every student can make the choices that they need. We believe school food and a just transition from factory farming are critical vehicles for achieving climate justice, health equity, and biodiversity protection. Our members also encourage schools to offer fresh, scratch-cooked plant-based meals and plant-forward food that is locally produced, organic, and non-GMO when available and affordable.

Sharing! There is also a virtual student discount to attend this convention.
We are excited to share that our Executive Director, Eloísa Trinidad, will be speaking at the largest event focused on planetary and climate health—the sold-out 2025 Our Climate, Our Health Climate Action Convention! Through our work, we continue to advance conversations on collective liberation, public health, and the urgent need to end factory farming, highlighting its impact on flora, fauna, and frontline and historically marginalized communities. Movement and coalition building are at the core of what we do, as we drive towards collective liberation for all Beings. We’re especially looking forward to the advocacy day on Capitol Hill following the conference. While the in-person event is sold out, we invite you to join us virtually. REGISTRATION: https://lnkd.in/gR6EKBXF Our Planet, Our Health: 2025 Climate Action Convention is a pivotal gathering of medical, public health, and climate leaders, experts, advocates, and educators. This event is dedicated to driving progress toward a healthier, more sustainable, and just future, a theme that is more relevant now than ever. The convention will be held at the John Hopkins Bloomberg Center and George Mason University. Through a series of dynamic sessions — offered in person and online — we will examine the state of our planet’s health and the necessary steps to achieve a sustainable future. Attendees will gain insights into cutting-edge research on the links between ecological drivers and health outcomes, explore strategies for building resilience and equity in the face of climate challenges, and learn how to build capacity for science-informed policymaking. Building Equity and Resilience: Farmer-Centered Approaches to Policy and Climate Solutions: This session explores the challenges farmers face due to inequitable policies and climate impacts, including health, productivity, and systemic barriers. Through firsthand accounts, it highlights strategies to design inclusive policies, build resilience, and foster collaboration among farmers and medical professionals for science-backed equitable, sustainable outcomes. #ProtectTheSacred #ClimateAction #ClimateCrisis #Polycrisis #Resilience #FoodSystems #Agriculture #FoodSoverignty #FoodJustice #Farmers #Farmworkers #Equity #Justice #PublicHealth #WashingtonDC #Agriculture #Policy #PolicyMaking #ClimateJustice

?? Check out Nitya Jakka’s YSC 2023 Blog Post! READ HERE: https://lnkd.in/gHPDsZrm This high-alevel report explores the ESG goals set by the agricultural sector and individual entities, the resulting implications, future models, and emerging technologies like vertical and urban farming. ????? Nitya also shares: “As a student at a residential high school, I had to change my diet from vegan to vegetarian to support my basic nutritional needs because there were not sufficient plant-based options. I worked with my school’s food service providers to bring more plant-based options to the menu and learned that nationwide policy change is necessary for all schools to do the same.” ??? #FoodJustice #PlantBasedSchools #Sustainable #Agriculture #Farming #FoodAccess #FoodJustice #Vegetarian #Vegan #PlantBased #Policy #SchoolFood #SocialJustice
