When crafting our business model at Plant People, we envisioned partnerships with retailers that shared our passion for the planet and its diverse ecosystems. Naturally, REI emerged as a top contender on our list. Our brand's namesake and ethos align seamlessly with the values upheld by REI – a dedication to plants, fungi, and all things planet-related. So grateful for Harvard Business School and its Health & Wellness club for inviting me to speak about my Founder journey starting Plant People, RISE Brewing Co., CROSBY and ALOHA. It was a pleasure meeting students and giving them a more "real and authentic" (that's what they said!) insight on what it's like to start a business, how I approach team building and, how specifically with Plant People, how we incorporate science and education in our customers' journeys with our brand. Grateful for the opportunity to speak at Brown University's Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship to share my 17 years of experience in launching and scaling consumer goods businesses, specifically Plant People, RISE Brewing Co. and CROSBY Advisory. Thank you for having me! I love inspiring students through brand stories, but my true passion is sharing the nitty-gritty details of entrepreneurship. My advice: just go, get to market, don't overspend ahead of launch and learn along the way. Keep things lean, go all-in and embrace the wild ride. Tough times are good for you and your business. Remember, as business owners, we lead by example. We create the culture our teammates reinforce -- if you don't show it, you don't deserve it. Rolling up your sleeves and getting things done is essential to success. It's all about the journey!
