关于我们
Helping Communities + Culture Flourish Our purpose is to elevate the voices and culture of those traditionally excluded from urban planning, land use and zoning. We inspire community-led, history-based planning solutions so that equitable outcomes are possible. We know telling the inclusive history of our communities is a critical component of all planning efforts. How can we help your community? We work with you to highlight and promote community history and heritage, elevate community members’ knowledge in land use and urban planning projects, and strategize and plan for your community’s future. We blend practical planning, historic preservation, and land use strategies with a commitment to working with people.

As part of ongoing efforts with the Housing and Urban Development Choice planning grant for the B.W. Cooper neighborhood in New Orleans, we recently joined with residents, COLLABO Planning + Design and the New Orleans Housing Authority in a series of working meetings to gather input, share ideas, and collaborate on strategies that will shape the future of the community surrounding the former B.W. Cooper development. Workgroups focused on Housing & Neighborhood Development, Education & Employment and Health & Wellness. We appreciate the opportunity to be at the table and work with residents in shaping the future of their community while also honoring the past! #culturalheritage #urbanplanning #revitalization #history #blackhistory

We recently facilitated our third Crossroads public workshop with American Beach residents at the A.L. Lewis Museum at American Beach. The Crossroads is the historic epicenter of the American Beach community. This visioning effort is a part of on-going implementation of Nassau County, Florida's American Beach Cultural Heritage Experience Master Plan. We are always delighted to spend time with the community and appreciate the time, energy, and passion of neighborhood residents! ?? #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #floridahistory #urbanplanning

We recently participated in a planning team field review of Durkeeville in Jacksonville, FL with Unified Community Investors. Conducted as a part of the Durkeeville study's data collection phase, topics discussed during the day included neighborhood culture, architecture, sports, economic challenges, opportunities and the unique history of a part of the neighborhood known as "The Hole." Our team is working with the Durkeeville community to develop an implementation plan and strategy for the revitalization of a portion of the neighborhood originally known as Barnett's Subdivision. #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #floridahistory #urbanplanning #jacksonville #publichistory

??A few weeks ago, we had a wonderful trip to Bozeman, MT with Sarah Marsom and Mulberry History Advisors for a variety of community engagement efforts around the City's Landmark Program initiative. Spending time talking about what Bozeman history and heritage means to Bozeman residents was really fantastic! We spent time at the Senior Center, Rec Center camp, downtown Bozeman, farmer's market, library, and two open houses at the fire station and historic Beall park. As part of the outreach, we installed temporary historic markers around town that share short stories of Bozeman's heritage and share more info about the project. Kudos to Sarah Marsom for all of her graphic design efforts and leading development of the engagement materials. The week kicked off efforts around a community survey that is up and running through mid-September: https://zurl.co/BNPu Input from the survey and the engagement events will help inform recommendations for potential updates to the City's historic preservation program. Thanks to everyone who spent time chatting with us! #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #urbanplanning #localgovernment #montanahistory #bozemanmt

??Over the next nine months, our team will be working with Jacksonville, FL's Durkeeville community to develop an implementation plan and strategy for the revitalization of a portion of the neighborhood originally known as Barnett's Subdivision. Named after the founder of Barnett National Bank, Barnett's Subdivision largely owes its existence to the establishment of the North Jacksonville Street Railway, Town and Improvement Company in 1902. Called the “Colored Man’s Railroad,” this Black-owned streetcar system connected Northwest Jacksonville with LaVilla. Anchored by JP Small Memorial Park, where the Jacksonville Red Caps of the Negro American League once played, Durkeeville emerged in the early 20th century as a haven for the city’s Black middle class. Home to one of the city's last surviving Green Book sites and several residences built by one of Florida's first Black millionaires Joseph Haygood Blodgett, today Barnett’s Subdivision is generally accepted as being a part of the greater Durkeeville neighborhood. We are very much looking forward to working with the community on this important effort! #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #urbanplanning #floridahistory #jacksonville #blackhistory #floridahistory

We recently facilitated a public kickoff meeting for Clearwater's North Greenwood Community Development Code Amendment Project with Benesch . The project involves review of the Comprehensive Plan and Community Development Code for their ability to accommodate missing middle housing and infill commercial, community engagement to determine community priorities, developing and providing a modified code for community feedback prior to city adoption. During the meeting, community members shared the story of a neighborhood filled with a rich cultural heritage, unique history, story and legacy and a desire for revitalization that allows North Greenwood's residents and cultural essence to remain in place. #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #urbanplanning #floridapreservation #floridahistory

Also looking forward to meeting up with two FORUM scholars, up and coming professionals in the field. ?? I'll be participating in some sessions and would love to have you join if you're there. Excellent collaborators on these sessions include: Susan West Montgomery, Alisha R. Winn, Ph.D., James K. Reap, Tamara McDonald, Dominique Hawkins, and Beverly Steele. ?? Kudos to NAPC and the conference planning committee for bringing this national conference to Florida for the very first time! Friederike Mittner deserves a big round of applause for taking the lead on proposing WPB. #historicpreservation #napcforum2024 #culturalheritage #urbanplanning #localgovernment
