Today we honor Indigenous Peoples' Day. "There are no set rules on how one should appreciate the day, said Van Heuvelen, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from South Dakota. It's all about reflection, recognition, celebration and an education. It can be a day of reflection of our history in the United States, the role Native people have played in it, the impacts that history has had on native people and communities, and also a day to gain some understanding of the diversity of Indigenous peoples," she said." 关于我们
Helping Communities + Culture Flourish Our purpose is to elevate the voices and culture of those traditionally excluded from urban planning, land use and zoning. We inspire community-led, history-based planning solutions so that equitable outcomes are possible. We know telling the inclusive history of our communities is a critical component of all planning efforts. How can we help your community? We work with you to highlight and promote community history and heritage, elevate community members’ knowledge in land use and urban planning projects, and strategize and plan for your community’s future. We blend practical planning, historic preservation, and land use strategies with a commitment to working with people.

?? We had a great time with COLLABO Planning + Design assisting in facilitating a resident planning workshop for the East University Avenue Choice Neighborhoods project in Gainesville, FL. Residents of all ages developed their vision for the future of their community and we appreciate the time and energy they put into sharing their concerns and hopes for the future. #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #placekeeping #publichistory #blackhistory #history #urbanplanning #floridahistory

??Our LaVilla Heritage Resources Survey work with Plusurbia Design in Jacksonville, FL continues to make progress. We recently solidified a final property list of structures, bridges, archaeological sites and resource groups for documentation within the neighborhood's original boundaries. This map illustrates the negative impact of urban renewal on what was once Jacksonville's densest urban neighborhood. #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #urbanplanning #floridapreservation #floridahistory

?? Last month, we participated in an interactive public workshop for Clearwater's North Greenwood Community Development Code Amendment Project with Benesch, Plusurbia Design and Liberty House Plans. During the meeting, residents reiterated the importance of policies that protect the neighborhood's history, sense of place, culture, and residents against displacement, while creating economic opportunity for prosperity as a part of the revitalization process. #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #urbanplanning #floridapreservation #floridahistory

We recently spent time with the legacy family Community Committee working on the 5th Avenue/Pleasant Street heritage trail in Gainesville, FL. Their insights, stories, and feedback are helping shape the design, location, and narratives on the trail. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and bring this project to fruition. Thank you to the Committee members and Carla Jones and Aaron Daye for their guidance on this project! #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #historicinterpretation #placekeeping #publichistory #blackhistory #history #urbanplanning #floridahistory #gainesvilleflorida #gainesvillehistory

?? We are thrilled that our Florida Chitlin' Circuit Historic Research and Documentation Project won an award at the Preservation on Main Street conference this summer! This is the first project that got CPC started. The Florida Chitlin' Circuit Research and Documentation Project was completed through a partnership of several Florida Main Street communities and funded by a Florida Division of Historical Resources grant. We took a deep dive into the history of the Circuit in Florida and venues in Jacksonville, St. Petersburg, Fort Pierce, and Eatonville. Thanks to the graphic design skills of Karen Essic, this report really came together and we are so proud of it. Check it out when you get a chance! You can download it at the corresponding website: https://zurl.co/Jc7y Thank you Florida Trust for Historic Preservation for the award recognition! #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #historicinterpretation #placekeeping #publichistory #blackhistory #history #urbanplanning #floridahistory

Enjoyed attending the re-opening of the historic Debs Store in Jacksonville, FL's Eastside neighborhood! We are delighted to be working with the Eastside community with various initiatives. The Debs Store is a legacy business in the neighborhood that served as a grocery store but also a community hub. The store's closure left a void in the community. Thanks to a partnership with LIFT JAX, Goodwill and VyStar, the store is once again open to serve Eastside residents. The project also received historic preservation grant funding from the State of Florida. Most of the employees of the store are community members, some of whom are multi-generational descendants of the Eastside and recall their grandparents and great-grandparents frequenting Debs. The store incorporates historic elements of the store and has a historic exhibit included. As part of ongoing efforts with the Housing and Urban Development Choice planning grant for the B.W. Cooper neighborhood in New Orleans, we recently joined with residents, COLLABO Planning + Design and the New Orleans Housing Authority in a series of working meetings to gather input, share ideas, and collaborate on strategies that will shape the future of the community surrounding the former B.W. Cooper development. Workgroups focused on Housing & Neighborhood Development, Education & Employment and Health & Wellness. We appreciate the opportunity to be at the table and work with residents in shaping the future of their community while also honoring the past! #culturalheritage #urbanplanning #revitalization #history #blackhistory

We recently facilitated our third Crossroads public workshop with American Beach residents at the A.L. Lewis Museum at American Beach. The Crossroads is the historic epicenter of the American Beach community. This visioning effort is a part of on-going implementation of Nassau County, Florida's American Beach Cultural Heritage Experience Master Plan. We are always delighted to spend time with the community and appreciate the time, energy, and passion of neighborhood residents! ?? #historicpreservation #culturalheritage #blackhistory #floridahistory #urbanplanning
