We conserve at-risk ecosystems through village-led partnerships.
关于我们
Planet Indonesia is an international non-government organization that conserves at-risk ecosystems through community-level partnerships. Our holistic approach employs local solutions and values in enhancing the potential of rural communities and villages and restoring and maintaining balance between humans and nature. The approach is both collaborative and led by the community and creates the enabling conditions for the community to be involved in sound natural resource management. The four pillars of our core model are Rights, and Management, Governance, and Regeneration, rights and are designed to bring positive change to the social ecological system by addressing the underlying social causes of biodiversity loss and unsustainable resource exploitation. Planet Indonesia was named a winner of the 2017 United Nations Development Program Equator Initiative for advancing nature-based local solutions for sustainable development. What keeps people from participating in community-led governance? Our study, conducted with leading universities, identifies critical barriers like time constraints, lack of clarity, and feelings of not being invited. These insights are crucial for improving conservation outcomes and making our work truly inclusive. Read more about these findings in our latest blog series: https://lnkd.in/ggBwxQeV

We're loving the energy in our first Planet Indonesia International team book club! Discussing The INGO Problem by Deborah Doane has sparked exciting and thought-provoking conversations about power, privilege, and how we can foster more equitable, locally-led solutions to better support our Indonesian Foundation. We’re already looking forward to our next meeting! Have you read the book? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
???Book Club Spotlight??? This month, our global team at Planet Indonesia embarked on a thought-provoking journey through Deborah Doane’s new book:?The INGO Problem: Power, Privilege, and Renewal. ?? If you work in the international development, climate, or conservation space, I highly recommend adding this to your reading list! Deborah’s insights provide a critical lens on the challenges and opportunities for INGOs and intermediaries, especially as they are increasingly seen as vehicles to drive more funding and promote direct finance methods. Without giving too much away (no spoilers! ??), the book dives into key issues we all need to consider in the climate and conservation space. From the importance of shifting governance models and embracing transparent monitoring and evaluation (data justice!), to intermediaries (often failing!) to recognizing their role as 'donors'—and how their influence can shape the flow of funds, both upstream and downstream. I believe many of the issues Deborah addresses and reflects on from the aid, humanitarian, and development space, are being repeated in the climate and conservation sectors (which always seems to be a decade or two behind!). If you’ve read it or are thinking of picking it up, we'd love to hear your thoughts! Let’s keep the conversation going about how we can truly support equitable, locally-led solutions. P.S. Deborah Doane we'd love to chat with you if you ever are up for it! Your book is now mandatory reading for any staff that join our organization :) #ClimateAction #Conservation #INGO #PowerShift #EquityInDevelopment #PlanetIndonesia

??Hendra Budaya Hadikusuma and our dedicated team recently participated in a Social Economic Monitoring and Coral Cover Monitoring Training led by the Coral Triangle Center. This training is essential for enhancing our understanding of community perspectives and assessing coral cover conditions. Thank you, Bang Hendra, for highlighting this valuable experience! #MarineConservation #CoralReefProtection #CapacityBuilding #CommunityEngagement
#surveisosialekonomi #surveitutupankarang #coral #marineconservation #capacitybuilding

??? "If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together" - African proverb, so eloquently shared by Ibu Hani at our first ever Connect Summit! This event brought together funders and four incredible local partners, showcasing their pioneering work in community-led conservation across Indonesia. From Sumatra to NTT, their stories and solutions illuminate a path toward a stronger, more connected future. Indonesia has a strong network of locally-led civil society organizations and NGOs that have been working together for years, sharing lessons learned, best practices, and collaborating on projects and proposals, however they have not always had the visibility in the international space. We created this space to showcase them and build philanthropic and implementor relationships so a greater portion of money committed to tackling climate and conservation issues can go directly to local solutions and communities they support. At Planet Indonesia, our role as ethical regranters is rooted in supporting our partners with fairness and respect, allowing them to lead and drive change. Connect Summit 2024 is a reflection of this commitment—bringing voices from the frontline directly to funders and amplifying the voices of all stakeholders and experts. A huge thank you to our inspiring presenters: - Hani Nusantari – Lembaga Juang Laut Lestari (JARI) (jari-indonesia.org) - Pramasti Ayu Kusdinar – Akar Foundation Akar Global Initiatives (akar.or.id) - sri dewi jayanti biahimo – Japesda Gorontalo (japesda.org) - Heribertus Se – Tananua Flores (tananua.org) Their leadership, resilience, and innovative solutions inspire us all. Their work is a reminder that lasting change comes from within communities—and that by working together, we can achieve a future where both people and nature thrive. Moving forward, we’re excited to see our partners strengthen their access to funding and open doors to even greater opportunities for scaling their impactful conservation efforts! ?????? Thank you to all who attended. #philanthropy #ethicalregranting #communityledconservation
