Ongoing training plays a key role in delivering exceptional #communitytourism experiences ?? Recently, our Community Tourism Development Specialist for Asia-Pacific, Hardam Saputro, visited Ngadas Community Homestay in Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, Indonesia, for a two-day refresher training. The goal was to identify not only operational challenges but also broader areas for improvement, enhancing homestay operations, tour experiences, and meal offerings to be more refined and culturally rich. Additionally, the session aimed to empower the community to better promote their culture while addressing social and cultural aspects of #tourism services. ??By the end of the session, the community had developed a clear action plan, fostering stronger coordination among stakeholders and identifying key areas for improvement to enhance service quality, comfort, and safety for travellers. _____________________________________ ?? Ngadas Community Homestay creates meaningful opportunities for the Tenggerese people, allowing the older generation to diversify their income while offering jobs that help the next generation stay and work in their local community. Travellers who visit get the chance to stay in a traditional Tengger home and explore the beautiful surroundings on a community-developed hike. Do you ever wonder if travel can truly be a force for good? Here’s a project that answers that question and makes me incredibly proud to be part of the amazing work we do at Planeterra and G Adventures. Meet the Asociación de Mujeres Artesanas Zoológico Mágico in San Martín, Oaxaca. This collective of 13 Zapotec women is dedicated to preserving their heritage by crafting vibrant, handmade alebrijes (wooden figures representing animals in Zapotec culture). Mass production has made it harder for artisans to sustain their craft. However, with Planeterra’s support, these women are reclaiming their traditions and building a sustainable future. Here’s what's been achieved:? ?? Business registration to strengthen their operations. ??? Workshop upgrades, including new bathrooms - a huge improvement for visitors! ?? Traveller visits through G Adventures, providing direct income for their community. So, how is tourism driving meaningful, positive change? By helping to sustain Zapotec heritage, empowering women, and creating brighter futures - proving that travel truly can be a force for good. This is why Project 300 is crucial. It aims to add 300 more community tourism projects like this around the globe. It’s a powerful reminder to consider the impact we leave behind when visiting local communities. Muy feliz de ver este peque?o gran logro para el Turismo Indígena en Misiones, estableciendo un nuevo paradigma de la comercialización de sus emprendimientos, de forma directa y con empresas dispuestas a acompa?ar desde otro lugar. As a traveller—or a travel professional—your choices have the power to create a positive impact (and yes, the opposite is also true, but let’s focus on the good!). Here’s an example: ?? The Khao Theppitak community in Thailand, sits beside a stunning suspension bridge with a perfect view of a heart-shaped mountain—a dream photo spot for travellers. In 2014, with support from the North Andaman Network (NAN), the community launched an ecotourism enterprise offering homestays, meals, and tours. But despite their efforts, most travellers just stopped for a quick photo on the bridge and moved on—meaning the community saw little economic benefit. With the support of NAN, Planeterra provided training in food safety and hygiene, enhanced the visitor experience, and funded the completion of a much-needed community centre with dining areas, a kitchen, and restrooms. Then, we connected them with our partners at G Adventures, ensuring a steady stream of visitors—and a sustainable source of income that benefits more community members.
