On?International Women’s Day, the Planetary Guardians celebrate the remarkable Mary Robinson, who has been recognized as one of Reuters Trailblazing Women in Climate 2025. A fierce advocate for climate justice, Mary has spent her life ensuring that the voices of the most vulnerable are heard and that justice remains at the heart of climate action. Through her work with?Project Dandelion,?she champions the bold transformations needed to protect our planet’s future. Her leadership is a testament to what it means to lead with conviction, courage, and compassion, qualities that have defined her career from being the first woman President of Ireland to becoming a global advocate for human rights and climate action. As we mark this day, we also look ahead to?the wider release of MRS ROBINSON, a?documentary film that?is more than a tribute to her legacy, it is a call to action. Stories like these do more than inspire; they mobilize. And that is what International Women’s Day is all about, accelerating action for a healthy and inclusive future. ?? ?? Wildlife is at the heart of our planet’s health, yet biodiversity loss is pushing us beyond planetary boundaries. Habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change threaten ecosystems that sustain life. This year’s World Wildlife Day reminds us to continue to finance conservation, investing in nature is investing in our future. Wild animals and plants, from highland steppes to coral reefs, are intrinsic to the intricate web of life on Earth. They sustain ecosystems, regulate natural processes, and support biodiversity, providing essential services that underpin human livelihoods and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Forests alone are home to 60,000 tree species, 80% of amphibian species, and 75% of bird species, while supporting over 1.6 billion people with natural capital in the form of food, medicine, and income. We must shift towards sustainable economies that protect wildlife and restore balance. France takes a bold step against ‘forever chemicals’ ?? By 2026, the country will ban the production, import, and export of PFAS in products like cosmetics, clothing, and ski wax, expanding to most textiles by 2030.?These?‘forever chemicals’?are part of a larger crisis of novel entities - including plastics, pesticides, and industrial chemicals - polluting ecosystems, accumulating in our bodies, and driving antibiotic resistance, hormonal imbalances, and cancer. Yet, most of the tens of thousands of synthetic chemicals in use have never been tested for safety. With the European Union considering a ban on 10,000 chemicals and countries like Denmark and the US tightening regulations, momentum is growing. The Planetary Guardians?commend?France's decision and urge further global action to protect humanity and all life on Earth.?Who’s Next? #BeaPlanetaryGuardian #PFASBan #France #NovelEntities Full story The Washington Post: https://lnkd.in/eQt6PQNm ?? We are deeply grateful to?Svenska Postkodlotteriets Stiftelse (The Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation) for their generous support of our work at the Planetary Guardians! Their investment in Planetary Boundaries science is a powerful example of how partnerships can drive meaningful action for our planet. Collaboration and bold leadership are essential to safeguarding Earth's stability, now more than ever. Together, we will continue to raise awareness, advocate for policy adoption, and ensure science guides urgent environmental action??? #BeaPlanetaryGuardian #Postkodeffekten #ProjectForChange Marie Dahll?f Jean Oelwang Richard Branson Rickard Sj?berg Virgin Unite
Last week, Svenska Postkodlotteriet had the pleasure of welcoming Sir Richard Branson and Jean Oelwang, President of Virgin Unite, for an inspiring evening. Together with Rickard Sj?berg,?they discussed the latest initiative “Planetary Guardians” and how to combine idealism, activism and entrepreneurship, in an effort to make the world a better place. ? The Planetary Guardians brings together experienced and new world leaders, to create action for a better world through elevating the facts and research of the Planetary Boundaries. This is a framework, which outlines the environmental processes that regulate Earth's stability and reflect the planet's health. ? During the evening, our Secretary General Marie Dahll?f, presented Jean Oelwang with a check of 2.4 million SEK in order to strengthen the work of the Planetary Guardians.?The funding will enable the Planetary Guardians to: ? Raise awareness about the planet's condition through the spread of latest research on the Planetary Boundaries. ? Advocate for the adoption of the framework in monitoring countries' environmental commitments, particularly in the lead-up to and during COP30. Svenska Postkodlotteriets Stiftelse (The Swedish Postcode Lottery Foundation) are proud to support the Planetary Guardians. It is a hugely important initiative showing much needed leadership and we are happy to join forces. #postkodeffekten #projectforchange #PlanetaryGuardians

A new report ‘Climate & Nature-based Interventions in Livestock’, produced by the FAIRR Initiative in collaboration with Vibrant Data Labs, and with support from Randy Newcomb (THE OMIDYAR GROUP LLC), the Planetary Guardians and Clic is out. This pivotal study redefines how we can identify and scale promising climate and nature-based solutions. The report builds on the Planetary Boundaries framework, offering investors an integrated approach to assess the environmental impact and financial opportunities of on-farm mitigation interventions that address the impacts of intensive livestock production on our climate and ecosystems. Nature-based solutions such as silvopasture and cover crops for example provide long-term positive benefits across multiple planetary boundaries. The report emphasises the need for a transformative shift towards sustainable, climate-and nature-positive agriculture to meet net-zero and biodiversity targets. With the planet already facing irreversible?tipping points, we are at a decisive moment for business leaders to act. Don't miss these two newly released reports 'Business on the Edge: Building Industry Resilience to Climate Hazards' and 'The Cost of Inaction: A CEO Guide to Navigating Climate Risk' ?? By addressing climate risks head-on now, businesses have an unmissable opportunity to build stronger and more sustainable operations while safeguarding societies and the planet. Check this link for the full reports ?? https://lnkd.in/dryTUaYv World Economic Forum PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
Businesses that fail to adapt to #climate risks could lose up to 7% of annual earnings by 2035. Extreme heat and other climate hazards could drive $560–$610 billion in fixed asset losses annually across listed companies. Energy-intensive sectors that fail to #decarbonize risk up to 50% of earnings by 2030. The findings for leaders from two new Forum reports are eye-opening. The research also sets out some practical ways businesses can respond. Learn more in this piece from Pim Valdre and Gill Einhorn: https://lnkd.in/edafXG2z
