The Challenge of Saying Yes in Venture Capital Well, I think this is a good example of thinking through how we make a decision to invest. You asked before, what was it about a deal that was different? And yeah, I mentioned she's super energetic, very passionate, and that's very, very clear. But the statistics show that You know, we say no most of the day, right? Most of the people I meet, I don't end up investing in. And really the sad truth is that if I would say no to everyone I meet, I would be right most of the time. Adi Wallach CalmiGo Neurotech Renana Ashkenazi Grove Ventures
Calmigo: Easing the Mental Health System Load So with this, eventually, do you see this as, you know, someone is at a psychiatrist, a counseling office, and they get a prescription? Is there an element for that as well? Yes, I want to say about that, actually, exactly when you spoke. What's good about Camigo is that it doesn't require a prescriber, so it doesn't add a load on the system. Because another problem that we didn't yet talk about is how much the system is overloaded, and there are huge shortages in mental health clinicians, in clinicians in general, but especially in mental health clinicians. So one of the things that the healthcare system likes about Camigo is that it doesn't require a prescription on one hand. On the other hand, we do see, and this is something that I think is amazing to see about the US, about the healthcare organization, clinicians in the US. The Inspiration Behind Calmigo Fast forward a few years later, after he used to be mainly at night for me at this period, and I used to wake up the person that is now my husband to help me stop the panic attacks. And one Saturday morning after a terrible Friday night of many attacks, I woke up and he said, how come that I need to wake him up to help me stop panic attacks if everything he knows about anxiety I taught him? I told him what to tell me when I'm having a panic attack. So why I cannot do it by myself? And at the same moment, I understood that when we are so overwhelmed, we are not able to do even things that we are well trained in. Today, I know to explain the science. Back then, it was just kind of my understanding of what's going on with me. And also at the same moment, I decided that what I want to do in life is to create products that people can take with them everywhere they go. and use it in order to calm yourself down without being dependent on medication or on other people. So this was kind of this Saturday morning and how it all started. After that, of course, came a long research. First of all, we understood that my personal story is not so personal. It's actually the story of 30% of the US population. So this was one moment. And also, we learned that what I felt As a name, it's called avoidance behavior and so forth. So first of all, the first thing was to understand, is it really a problem or is it just my problem? And then also to look for a solution of how we can create this product that will really enable people to calm down themselves in just a few minutes, also during this kind of very stressful moment that they are so overwhelmed, they are not really themselves. ?CalmiGo Neurotech Adi Wallach Renana Ashkenazi Grove Ventures
Harnessing the Parasympathetic Nervous System And the reason for that is, as you guessed, is that because what we are doing is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, In any situation in which the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system is helpful, this is where our product is helpful. So it can be anxiety and PTSD, but also ADHD, as you mentioned.?CalmiGo Neurotech Adi Wallach Renana Ashkenazi Grove Ventures
Medical Debt: A Bipartisan Call for Change I think that medical debt is a bipartisan issue. Most people believe that you should not lose everything because you get sick. A lot of times, you know, healthcare can be divisive and, you know, People might not agree on the solutions, but almost everyone believes that charity care should be a thing and that you shouldn't lose everything because you get sick. So I think if we are moving into the States, I think we might have trouble the next four years trying to get anything to move federally, but I think that the states are motivated. And I think that we can actually build out laws that protect patients and make sure that charity care is known, easy, and fair, and that it's applied to people that are eligible without having them jump through a million hoops.?
Critique of the Profit-Driven Healthcare System I mean, again, this is way, way outside of my expertise. I think that when you have a profit driven healthcare system, you're going to have a bunch of players that are gouging everyone. Right. And right now you're in like, it's like you said, everyone is, it's like that Spider-Man meme. Like everybody's pointing the finger at each other where it's, you know, pharmaceutical insurance companies and and hospitals and they're all going to blame each other. And the reality is, is they're all screwing you.
85% of Hospital Bills Have Errors: How to Protect Yourself I can't speak to that. But I do know that I think the latest stats around this were like 85 percent of hospital bills have billing errors in them so you are being billed for things that either didn't happen or you're being overcharged for things that did happen so this is where you get that classic, you know 75 aspirin or the or the 50 band-aid you know whatever. And we do see that a lot. People come to us with these big inflated bills, and we have kind of recommendations on that. Ask for an itemized bill. Just by asking for an itemized bill, your bill usually comes back at a lower amount, which is just wild. I don't know if that answers your question.?
Using TikTok to Erase Over a Million in Medical Debt Yeah, I mean, I think last year we spent a majority of last year trying to work with hospitals. So what I didn't share in kind of our origin story is in 2021. So like I find out about charity care and I realize, oh, my gosh, this is crazy. In a few months, I got over a million dollars of medical debt to disappear for people in the Portland metro area where I grew up. And so I realized it was this big opportunity, and I'm trying to get the word out. I was not having a whole lot of luck. And then at the beginning of 2021, I posted a TikTok video that told people what Charity Care was, and it just exploded. I mean, it gets 30 million views, like it just went all over the internet. And dollar four was just me. So from 2021 to now we've built our team and we've, you know, built out the tech and all of that.
