If you have been working with farmers directly, this is an excellent opportunity. Nanoplastic accumulation in edible herbs ???? DID YOU KNOW? ?? It has been shown that nanoplastic (NPs) particles can translocate from root to shoot, accumulate in certain plant tissues and significantly affect plant health at high exposure concentrations. ?? A recent study coordinated by the Experimental Station of Arid Zones, CSIC, Spain investigated the nanoplastic uptake and distribution in the root, stem and leaves of the edible herb (garden cress) ?? The exposure to high concentrations of 100 nm polystyrene nanoplastics contributed to a significant reduction of the germination rate, plant fresh weight, root weight and length and number of lateral root. ?? It has been demonstrated that about 15% of the NPs were transferred to aerial parts compared to the root. ??? The findings underscore the immediate requirement for additional investigation of this matter concerning both food safety and security.
