?????? Sharing this update from Julia W. who just completed the Gender Mainstreaming course taught by Irene Ojuok and Liliane Pari Umuhoza. We are so glad to have leaders like Julia improving gender equity in the environmental field!

For too long, the dominant leadership model has been about power over others, upholding the status quo and suppressing diverse perspectives. This has to change if we hope to solve huge challenges like the environmental crisis and gender inequity, and their many connected issues. Planet Women models and promotes a different approach to leadership — one focused on sharing power, collaboration over competition, and many ways of knowing. This looks like more diverse leaders making the decisions that impact their lives, families, organizations, and communities. This old model of leadership is holding on strong. AND we're heartened by the many, many leaders —both established and rising — who are committed to inclusion and social, racial, and environmental justice. Recently in Atlanta, we gathered with incredible leaders who are part of the 100 Women Pathway. Here are a few photos from Sydney St. Fleur! ?? Right now on the Tohono O’odham Nation in Tucson, we're co-hosting the 2nd annual Women and Water Convening with leaders building a thriving future for the Colorado River. Updates to come! Another year, another COP, and yet again, we are confronted with the glaring imbalance in women’s representation on climate decision-making fora. ???Exhibit A: 8 women representing 51% of the population, alongside 69 men representing 49%. This statistic is not just a number—it’s a stark reminder of the work that remains to be done. At #SHEChangesClimate, we continue to push the boundaries, advocating for true representation. Because real gender parity isn’t about ticking boxes; it’s about building a foundation for solutions that are just, inclusive, and impactful for all. And as the Enhanced Lima Work Programme on Gender and its Gender Action Plan come up for review this year, we’re reminded once again that true progress cannot be achieved without meaningful participation from women at all levels of decision-making. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan

That's a wrap on our third Gender Mainstreaming cohort! ?? Thank you to the incredible participants who brought their curiosity, knowledge, and diverse professional experiences to our sessions these past eight weeks. One participant, Tonny, said: "The Gender Mainstreaming course has profoundly influenced both my personal growth and professional development. It has equipped me with the analytical tools to recognize and challenge patriarchal norms that hinder gender equity in our society. For instance, I've learned to identify how these norms manifest in workplace policies and practices, allowing me to advocate for more inclusive approaches in my daily work. This course has not only deepened my understanding of gender dynamics but also empowered me to drive meaningful change within my organization and beyond." We are honored and proud to provide this training to women and men who are protecting and restoring natural areas across Africa. I want to reshare this memorable moment from Planet Women’s 100 Women Pathway Program! ?? Just three weeks ago, we officially kicked off our fourth cohort. As one of Planet Women’s Program Coordinators, it was amazing to see the hard work, passion, and teamwork come together to bring these inspiring and brilliant women together. Our special guest speaker, Tamara Toles O'Laughlin, CEO and President of the Environmental Grantmakers Association, shared her inspiring story, bringing a fun, engaging, and motivating energy to our kickoff. Now, Planet Women’s team and Cohort 4 members are in Pine Mountain, Georgia, participating in day two of the 100 Women Pathway In-Person Workshop. There, they are actively participating in skill-sharing workshops, training sessions, and coaching programs designed to support the career and personal growth of diverse, dynamic women leaders who are committed to protecting the Earth. It’s an incredible experience to be a part of! ?????? Feeling grateful to be part of such impactful work! I'm thrilled to share that I've been selected to join Cohort of 4 of Planet Women's 100 Women Pathway Project! It's an incredible program with such an important and timely mission; to double the number of women*, particularly women of color, in C-suite roles at environmental organizations over the next five years. Planet Women is accomplishing this by empowering a diverse group of women leaders with the tools and support needed to step into key leadership roles within the environmental field. These senior roles will ensure they have an equal voice at the table in shaping the global response to climate change, environmental injustice, the extinction crisis, and gender inequality." I’m honored to be part of this movement and can’t wait to connect with the other participants at the upcoming in-person workshop. I’m excited to learn together and from one another!
