Nestled in the remote mountains of Maco, Davao, Philippines, the village of New Leyte faces a lot of challenges with access safe water, especially during heavy rains and typhoons. Addressing these challenges, the Planet Water team recently installed an AquaTower at New Leyte Elementary School. The AquaTower ensures access to safe drinking water, ensuring they have access to safe drinking water despite the area’s vulnerability. By providing clean water, it plays a key role in reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses, which is a significant concern in such disaster-prone areas.? ? “We constantly live in fear of landslides, and the treacherous roads make it nearly impossible to access clean water. Our daily routine often involves boiling water just to make sure it’s safe enough for my family, which is often unreliable. The installation of the AquaTower at my child’s school brings us much relief and peace of mind. Planet Water Foundation is excited to have recently celebrated our 75th project with Capital One Philippines. With associate-volunteers and senior leaders from Capital One, they built and deployed an AquaTower in Cavite, bringing safe water access to Munting Ilog Elementary School and the surrounding community.? ? “Interacting with these incredible children, teachers and the community was an absolute joy. We shared in their excitement in building the water tower, reminding them of the importance of clean water and hand hygiene to protect them from water-born diseases. Each smile was a beautiful reminder of the difference we’re making in their lives. With each water tower deployment, my appreciation for the resilience of these children and the bright futures they can build with the right resources and support grows. Knowing that we are creating and providing access to safe drinking water gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment,” said Sara Murphy, Head of Global Operations and President of Capital One Philippines. Several more towers will be deployed in Quezon, Cavite, Bulacan, Baguio, Camarines Sur, Cebu and Samar in line with the Capital One Philippines’ goal to build 100 water towers by 2025. Thanks to our partnership with the Starbucks Foundation, Planet Water Foundation was able to provide clean water to I.E.I Mirador de Jesús school in Ventanilla, Lima, Peru! With support from Starbucks volunteers, we successfully installed an AquaTower that generates 1,000 liters of drinking water per hour—enough to meet the daily needs of up to 1,800 people! ? “I feel sad when I can’t come to school because I am sick. In the rural community of Lutucan 1, Sariaya, Quezon Province, access to safe drinking water has historically been a challenge due to limited infrastructure and reliance on untreated water sources. ? Thanks to the generous contributions of Xylem ANZ's colleagues and channel partners, along with the dedicated efforts of their volunteers who travelled to the Philippines to help support the project, an AquaTower was installed at Lutucan 1 Elementary School. Prior to the AquaTower, the students obtained their daily drinking water from a tank supplied by a nearby river. Unfortunately, this led to a high number of illnesses and increased absenteeism among students. In Vietnam, access to safe drinking water is still a challenge for many people, especially low-income communities who rely on costly bottled water. ? We're thrilled to announce that, thanks to our partner Columbia Sportswear Company and their supplier partners Da Sheng Enterprise Corp. and Ge Lan Textile Ind. Co., two new AquaTower projects have been deployed in Binh Phuoc and Thanh Hoa Provinces. These water filtration systems ensure safe, and abundant drinking water for all students and teachers at these schools. “Before having the Aquatower system, we had to buy bottled water for the students; it’s costly and not sufficient for them.
