How Does Furniture Influence Our Perception of Space????? In this discussion, we explore the profound impact furniture has on how we understand and experience space. Unlike walls, which can often fade into the background, it's the furniture that provides the cues—through?texture, color, and social signals—that shape our perception of a room. ?? Architecture is often about what we perceive in our?peripheral vision. Without furniture, a space might feel empty or undefined. But when you add furniture, suddenly there's a narrative, a set of expectations, and a functionality that emerges. For instance, while most of us wouldn’t think to sit on a table, seeing chairs around a table gives us clear social cues about how that space is meant to be used. This brings us to a larger theme from the course: the importance of?holistic design. We often separate disciplines—architecture from planning, or interiors from construction—but in reality, they are inseparable.
