  • At Plan International, we know that young people are already leaders in their communities and schools. Girls and women are often overlooked for leadership roles, but social media offers a platform where they can shine, grow and share. Together with supporters like you and our youth advocates, we work to keep young people safe online. We deeply value creators who consistently put out kind, informative content and are a reminder that girls and women can do anything they put their mind to. From mental health to environmental activism to body confidence to literature recommendations, these four creators are putting out content that feeds our bodies, minds and spirits. Head to Instagram to follow Genesis Butler, Haile Thomas, Zyahna Bryant and Brea Baker for more! #creatorspotlight #girls #women #youthactivists #youngactivists Accessibility text: A blue square contains the images of four women, who are placed over a meandering yellow line. Above them in white text, it reads: "Creator Spotlight: Activists, artists and entrepreneurs who we love to learn from." • At Plan, we believe that every child deserves a safe and healthy childhood free from conflict, where they have all their emotional, social and basic needs met. This week, we’re sharing three stories that focus on the critical need for children’s rights to be protected – both online and in times of crisis. Children in the Democratic Republic of Congo are facing severe human rights violations, including a lack of basic necessities and widespread sexual violence. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is calling for urgent action. • As the full-scale war in Ukraine enters its fourth year, Nataliia faces the harsh reality of not knowing if she will ever be able to return home safely. The family fled Ukraine in 2022 when the war broke out and headed to the safety of Poland. The war has been especially disruptive for women, like Nataliia, placing an overwhelming burden on them to maintain the stability of their families. Their resilience and strength are often overlooked, but they carry the weight of ensuring not only their own survival, but also the well-being of their children. Nataliia’s lifeline has been the Patchwork Association in Krakow, a partner organization of Plan International. Patchwork provides vital support to refugee families of children with disabilities and special educational needs, including Nataliia’s daughter Alesia who has autism. In the face of so much uncertainty, thank you for providing mothers like Nataliia with a safe space where their children can learn and grow. #humanitarian #internationaldevelopment #family #ukraine

  • Community is key in driving real change for girls and young people. Alícia and Regina are close friends from Codó, a city in the north-east of Brazil. The girls met at one of Plan International's girls' leadership schools, where they quickly formed a strong bond. Now graduates of the program, they have become mentors for the project, inspiring other girls to follow their dreams and make a difference in their communities. In Brazil, Plan International's Leadership School for Girls project has been running since 2016 to develop girls' life skills, knowledge of their rights and increase their advocacy skills. These girls, like Alícia and her friends, serve as ambassadors for social justice programs around their communities. This #WorldDayOfSocialJustice, how will you build community to drive the change you want to see? Drop a comment below! ??: Rafael Gardini Accessibility text: Two girls sit on stone steps. They wear colorful clothes and a yellow, graphic arrow wraps around them pointing to thin, white text that reads: "Now I accept myself for who I am, confident, outspoken and someone who loves to interact with people, especially the other girls in the project. I always talk to every girl I meet about the importance of leadership and empowerment, inspiring them to follow their dreams and stand up for themselves in society.” The quote is attributed to Alícia in Brazil.
