  • PCF is deeply heartbroken by the passing of Don. He was a true leader in every sense—genuine, compassionate, and unwavering in his dedication to the community. For years, he served as co-chair of the Placer Collaborative Network, attended our Nonprofit Leadership Summits, and worked alongside us and countless others to make a lasting impact in Placer County. His contributions were immeasurable, and his presence will be profoundly missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, as well as to the entire Child Advocates of Placer County - CASA network.

This week, we lost a true legend. Don Kleinfelder, the fearless leader of Child Advocates of Placer and Yuba Counties for 17 remarkable years, was more than a leader—he was the visionary founder and driving force behind our mission. His belief that every child deserves a safe, loving home shaped everything he did, and his impact will be felt for generations. From the moment he established the CASA program in 2004, Don dedicated himself to improving the lives of foster youth. He tirelessly expanded programs, forged vital partnerships, and led with passion and purpose. When the need arose to support families, Don didn’t hesitate. In 2010, he launched the Family Mentor program, ensuring parents had the resources to reunite with their children in safe, stable homes. His vision continued to grow, leading to the creation of the Family Services division in 2020. Don embodied the CASA mission, always seeking new ways to serve. In 2019, he introduced the Be Bold program to support victims of human trafficking, followed by the K-9 for Kids program, broadening the scope of our impact. In his memory, we are honored to establish the Don Kleinfelder Fund, ensuring programs like the Hero's Fund continue to grow and create meaningful impacts. ??For more information about this initiative, please visit our website at casaplacer.org We are also proud to introduce the Don Kleinfelder Heroes Award, an annual honor recognizing a volunteer, community partner, or individual who embodies Don's unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children and families in our community. This award celebrates the purpose and passion Don so deeply exemplified. It will be presented at one of his favorite events, the Evening of Hope Gala. Beyond his professional achievements, Don will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the way he inspired everyone he met. Though his passing is a profound loss, we honor his legacy by carrying forward his passion and continuing his mission.

Congratulations to Elvira, who graduated last week from Youth Development Network's Creciente Latinx Leadership program and will go on to serve as a leader for the Latino Leadership Council Inc. Creciente builds leadership capacity to prepare and empower the next generation of Latinx leaders to influence business and civic policy decisions. PCF is proud to support Placer participants in this critical program. Adelante!

  • We're excited about the Sunrose Apartments in Roseville and what they represent for the community-at-large, stable, affordable housing where folks can create memories around their kitchen table. These 82 units for extremely low-income veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities would not have been possible without Placer County Health and Human Services, the City of Roseville, and AMIH, proving that public/private partnerships are the key to getting affordable housing built. Thank you to all involved for collaborating and showing how it can be done. Together we can.

By investing in fire-resistant, multi-family dwellings, we can protect lives, reduce risk, and build a stronger, more sustainable future for Placer County. Let’s push for smarter housing solutions that keep our communities safe. Read more about how we’re making a difference. #HousingResilience #CommunitySafety #AffordableHousing
