My focus is on raising a good human today. (and every day) Both in business and life, focusing on what’s in our control is the best we can do. Also, action absorbs anxiety (credit: Dan Harris). If you have a chance, get out there, do something, help someone. As always, be purposeful. Placement on Purpose

Would you #relocate for a job? The end of the white-collar recession in the US is not in sight yet. Many of us, especially in fields like recruitment, HR, and marketing have been unemployed for too long. #Remote work is not coming back. In fact, it may be moving backwards. Instead of blaming the market or companies, I like to think in solutions. Focus on what we can control. So.. What if we move to where the jobs are? Would you relocate to, say, Bentonville, AR? Or Camden, NJ? Or anywhere? Would you consider to move if the company offered you relocation support? Let me know! Placement on Purpose

If the #job market is so strong, how come I’ve been unemployed for this long? Trust me: it’s NOT just you. The US job market is experiencing a white-collar #recession. After the #hiring boom of 2021 and 2022, sectors like tech, finance, consulting and marketing have reduced (or stopped) hiring. At the same time, workers who may be unhappy in their jobs are golden handcuffed: they’re not quitting because opportunities to move up and out are becoming scarcer. Bad news all around if you’re out of work! BUT, this will turn around again. The market in your sector will bounce back. It always does. Keep at it. Focus on what’s in your control. Don’t take rejection or ghosting personally. It never is. And, as always, be purposeful. Placement on Purpose

Frequently Asked Question in #job searching: I have been out of work for more than 6 months. Should I lower my #salary expectations? My answer: No. Your worth doesn’t decrease by being unemployed. When you get asked about your compensation expectations, the below would be appropriate answers: 1. In my last job, I was making XYZ and I would like to keep an upward trajectory 2. I’m considering opportunities that pay XYZ However: Pay attention to market dynamics. Sometimes, unfortunately, certain skill sets decrease in value in a certain period of time because of a decrease in demand (it’s not personal!) If you’re a tech recruiter still holding on to the (2021) $200k+ expectation, you will set yourself up for disappointment.. Feel free to get in touch if you want to learn more about how to navigate this type of situations: Placement on Purpose

Did you know it costs $25,000 per month to have a #job opening? And $43,000 for #Tech roles? Here are some tips to get those roles filled asap: * Be crystal clear on your NEED. Involve HR to define must-have requirements and have your recruiter write a job posting that is realistic and appealing (do not just post the JD - this is an internal document only). * Appoint an OWNER to drive a lean process. This can be an internal or external #recruiter but should be only ONE person to ensure true accountability and avoid noise in the market. * Dedicate time to BRIEF that one person thoroughly on what you are looking for: both hard skills and competencies. Make sure they know the exact budget and the development opportunities for the job holder down the line. Ensure they can talk about the team and the leadership as if they were hiring for themselves. * Define a LIMITED number of interviewers and tell each of them what to assess exactly. Have your recruiter collect feedback from all or, even better, set-up a debrief session in the same week that the interviews are completed. * Check your BIASES at the door. “I can’t put my finger on it, but I feel they may not be a culture fit” is not valid feedback. * Be DECISIVE. If someone meets your requirements and none of the interviewers have valid concerns, hire them. “They are good but I want to see more people” will cost you. #Hire purposefully. Placement on Purpose
