???? Paul J. Ford & Company Celebrates Significant Milestone ???? Paul J. Ford & Company will celebrate a significant milestone in 2025. The company will be 60 years old! As a salute to our long history, throughout the year, we will be sharing the company’s journey from its beginnings to the current day, starting with a post about the company’s founder and namesake, Paul Joseph Ford. Paul Ford grew up in the Texas panhandle. He attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. After a job designing and inspecting bridges and a job designing ordnance plants (facilities used to manufacture ammunition and explosives to support World War II), Paul was called into service and enlisted in the Navy. When the war ended, Paul came to Columbus, OH, to pursue a new professional opportunity. A soldier with whom Paul had served in the war worked at a local architectural firm. The firm was looking for a structural engineer and Paul was referred. Further bolstering his career, Paul also served as an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University in the Department of Architecture. Although Paul enjoyed his job and had been with the same firm for nearly 20 years, he had always longed to start a structural engineering firm. So, at 55, Joe took the risk and quit his stable job to start his firm and Paul J. Ford Structural Engineers was born.

With an inspired vision and desire to change the perception of structural engineering, Paul J. Ford founded his own firm in 1965 to seamlessly deliver creative solutions while continually striving to provide exceptional service. Mr. Ford’s forward-thinking had an immediate impact on shaping the Columbus skyline with structural engineering for several landmark buildings.
At the heart of Mr. Ford’s concept for building design was the notion of creativity meets constructability. Based on this philosophy, our team has completed services for a variety of building types including commercial, office, municipal, healthcare, industrial, mixed-use, multi-family housing, hospitality, entertainment, aviation and retail.
Growth in the communications industry also began to shape the vision that Mr. Ford had for the firm. As this industry reacted to its changing needs and growth, the inventive minds at PJF designed new “guyed” and self-supporting towers to meet these challenges. Fast forward to today and PJF is a nationally recognized leader and innovator in the telecommunications and electrical power infrastructure markets.
PJF has solidified its position in the towers, monopoles, power, building and retail markets. Our success in these areas, in large part, is reliant on the expertise of our staff, the cutting-edge investment in software and tools and the innovative spirit the company was founded upon which has led to the development of products and software that better our clients’ experience.
PJF has been successful throughout its extensive history in developing long-standing relationships with a diverse group of clients including architects, contractors, private owners, developers, construction managers, fabricators, industrial owners and federal, state and local municipalities.

Despite the weather, work on one of our substation power projects continues progressing. This project involves a new 138/34.5kV substation and 34.5kv distribution line for an industrial facility. This design-build project is being completed in collaboration with Schultheis Electric, a Division of TSB Inc. and FST Engineering. The work includes significant grading to create a flat pad on the side of a steep incline for the substation area, a new stormwater system, reinforcing the low side slope with rock buttresses, and providing a retaining wall at the high side. To date, civil work and foundations are nearing completion and distribution line steel is on site. Power demand in the industrial sector is increasing at a rapid rate and Paul J. Ford & Company’s Power Group is ready for the challenges and opportunities resulting from this growth.?
