  • The Deadly Cold: A Reminder of the Tragedies Faced by Migrants and the Homeless As I write this post, the temperature outside my home in Connecticut has dropped to -25°C, with heavy snowfall covering the ground. This harsh weather brings to mind a story that feels almost too incredible to be true—a story of survival, but also a reminder of the deadly cold that claims lives every winter. In December 1980, 19-year-old Jean Hilliard experienced an unimaginable ordeal in Minnesota. After her car skidded off an icy road, she decided to walk two miles to her friend’s house for help. But the unforgiving cold overwhelmed her, and she collapsed just 15 feet from safety. By the time she was found six hours later, her body was frozen solid. Doctors could not insert needles into her skin or measure her body temperature. Her heartbeat had slowed to just 12 beats per minute. Miraculously, Jean survived. After weeks of medical care, she fully recovered without any permanent damage—a testament to human resilience and medical expertise. But not everyone is as fortunate. Every winter, thousands of migrants, refugees, and homeless people face life-threatening conditions due to the lack of shelter and warmth. In Europe, migrants attempting to cross borders often sleep in tents or on the streets, exposed to freezing temperatures. In Gaza, children have tragically died due to the lack of proper winter clothing and heating. According to the International Organization for Migration, nearly 3,800 migrants lost their lives in 2022 alone on routes in or from the Middle East and North Africa. These stories remind us that the cold is not just a weather condition—it is a deadly adversary for those without protection. They also highlight the urgent need for action. Governments, organizations, and individuals must work together to ensure that no one is left vulnerable to such preventable tragedies. Jean’s story is a powerful reminder of survival against all odds, but it also serves as a call to action. As we face the challenges of winter, let’s commit to helping those in need and advocating for the human right to shelter, warmth, and dignity. #HumanRights #WinterCrisis #Homelessness #Refugees #MigrantRights #JeanHilliard #Resilience #Advocacy

  • Pixology Denounces Violence Against Women in Sudan Recognizing the profound significance of human rights, particularly for women, Pixology is dedicated to safeguarding women from violence and fostering awareness about their issues and rights. Pixology Foundation actively advocates for an immediate halt to gender-based violence, including sexual violence, and firmly opposes its use as a weapon of war to instill fear and oppression. The organization urges prompt, thorough, unbiased, and independent investigations into alleged severe violations of human rights and breaches of international humanitarian law, demanding accountability for those responsible. Pixology calls for all parties involved in the conflict to uphold international humanitarian law and human rights principles to protect civilians, especially women and girls. It also emphasizes the necessity of ensuring survivors’ safe passage, access to medical care, and coordination with healthcare providers to facilitate their work in reaching essential facilities. The foundation stresses the need for the United Nations and its human rights partners to enhance services aimed at preventing gender-based violence, including domestic violence. This appeal is especially pressing in light of reports from civil society groups revealing an estimated 4.2 million cases of domestic violence since the outbreak of the conflict, with at least 3,060 incidents reported in Khartoum alone in 2024 and 682 cases of violence and sexual assault documented in Darfur. As part of its commitment to addressing global human rights challenges, Pixology remains resolute in its mission to achieve equitable and sustainable progress. The foundation seeks meaningful cooperation to advance these objectives. Issued by the Sustainable Development Unit

  • Poverty in Africa: A Silent Crisis Stealing the Future of Its Youth Poverty in Africa is far more than a lack of material resources; it strips young people of their potential, depriving them of educational and professional opportunities. This deepens existing challenges and undermines the advancement of African nations. While the first goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is to eliminate poverty, many African countries remain trapped in extreme poverty, creating a stark contradiction that hinders progress toward this vital objective. Pixology Foundation highlights that the consequences of poverty extend beyond statistics. It forces countless young Africans to risk their lives in pursuit of a better future. Some have resorted to hiding in the landing gear compartments of planes at African airports—a desperate escape that often ends in death due to extreme temperatures and fatal drops in air pressure during flight. Real-life events illustrate the gravity of this crisis. In 2014, the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was shaken when fragments of a man’s body fell from the sky. A similar tragedy occurred in 2019 when a frozen body landed in a garden in London, the victim having turned into a block of ice due to the conditions at high altitudes. Pixology underscores that these incidents are not isolated tragedies; they are stark reminders of systemic failures and grave violations of basic human rights: the right to life, dignity, and meaningful work. In response, Pixology denounces these injustices and calls for immediate global action to dismantle all forms of neo-colonial exploitation that sustain poverty and despair across Africa and other developing regions. The global community must take responsibility for fostering genuine development in Africa, prioritizing support for vulnerable populations over the extraction of their resources. African governments must also redouble their efforts to fulfill the promises of the first SDG, eradicating poverty and advancing comprehensive and equitable development. • Human rights violations escalate with the intensification of conflict in Syria. The conflict in Syria continues to escalate, with significant repercussions for civilians and an alarming rise in human rights abuses. Opposition forces have advanced into Aleppo, gaining control of substantial areas as government forces withdraw from key positions. Fighting has expanded beyond Aleppo, with two new fronts opening: one in the eastern outskirts of the city and another stretching from Idlib province toward Hama’s borders. These developments follow intensified airstrikes by Russian and Syrian forces in recent weeks targeting civilian areas in Idlib. The violence, now in its fifth consecutive day, has led to more than 400 deaths, including many non-combatants. Pixology Foundation condemns the ongoing hostilities and highlights the extensive humanitarian challenges in Syria. By the end of November, over 48,500 individuals had been displaced, and approximately 16.7 million Syrians were in dire need of humanitarian support. We stress the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015), which calls for reducing violence, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring the protection of marginalized groups. A genuine and inclusive political process is critical to addressing the root causes of this crisis and fostering long-term stability. Pixology Foundation calls upon all parties to prioritize the safety of civilians and uphold international obligations. This is a pivotal moment for the global community to act decisively, provide meaningful support, and work toward an enduring solution that respects the dignity and rights of all Syrians.

  • Sudan... A Severe Educational Crisis Pixology for Peace, Development, and Human Rights Foundation is deeply concerned about the ongoing violence and conflict in Sudan, which have led to widespread violations of human rights. Among the country’s 19 million children, around 6.5 million have been deprived of schooling due to rising insecurity and violence in their communities. Approximately 10,400 schools in conflict-affected areas have shut down as a result. Pixology warns that Sudan is on the brink of becoming one of the most difficult places for education. For nearly six months, children have endured the hardships of war. Now, cut off from their classrooms, teachers, and peers, they face an uncertain future that could impact an entire generation. The foundation calls for urgent action to support Sudanese children by ensuring they continue their education in a safe environment. It stresses the importance of delivering emergency aid to enable millions of children to return to school and to provide them with psychological and social assistance. Additionally, Pixology highlights the need for adequate resources to sustain educational efforts, particularly in areas affected by the ongoing conflict. Statement from Sustainable Development Unit
