Congratulations to the Primetime Emmy Nominees! Our Raymond McIntyre Jr., Victor DiMichina, and our friends Damien Stantina from BUF Compagnie and Javier Menéndez Platas from PFX have been nominated. We're thrilled that HBO Max's Winning Time Season 2 is getting recognized for Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode - 2024!!
We are thrilled to announce that Patrick Mulhearn has teamed up with Pixel Magic for business development. We are based in the Celtic Media Centre and are excited to have him representing us! Welcome Patrick!
For more than a decade I have been praising Raymond McIntyre Jr. and Pixel Magic and telling everyone about the incredible award-winning visual effects work they do here in their offices at Celtic Media Centre. Today I am proud to announce that we are officially teaming up. Mulhearn & Associates is now representing Pixel Magic and assisting the company with business development and potential company expansion in Louisiana. Our shared commitments to solving production problems, lowering costs for producers, and growing the VFX side of the industry in this region of the U.S. made our decision to work together a no-brainer. Ray and the team at Pixel Magic are some of the most knowledgeable VFX professionals and talented digital artists on the planet. While you might have heard me touting some of their recent work performed in Baton Rouge including HBO’s “Raised by Wolves” and “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” (VES Award winner for 2024), Pixel Magic’s credits over the past 30 years actually include sci-fi classics like “Independence Day” (1996), historical epics like “The Last Samurai” (2003), blockbuster fantasies like “Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows” (2010), and Academy Award-winners like “Green Book” (Best Picture, 2019). Great-paying jobs that keep our creative talent from moving to other states (and in the comfort of air-conditioning!) should be a priority for us in Louisiana. Depending on the position and experience, VFX jobs pay on average between $50,000 to $120,000 or more per year. Louisiana is one of the few states that awards tax credits for visual effects performed in the state even if the production never shoots the first frame here. By spending at least $300,000 with Pixel Magic on VFX in Baton Rouge, the production can earn a 25% tax credit from the State of Louisiana. If the production spends at least $1 million of VFX with Pixel Magic here, that tax credit rate bumps up to 30%. And don’t forget: if that "$1 million-plus" of VFX work was performed by Pixel Magic in Louisiana for a production that based at Celtic Studios (or anywhere in Louisiana outside of the New Orleans area), that VFX spend should earn the production a 35% tax credit on those expenditures here. Let’s face it: some scripts call for scenes that are just too expensive or too dangerous to shoot practically. Visual effects have advanced to the point to where “impossible" shots are more possible than ever - without wrecking the production’s budget or jeopardizing anyone’s safety. Pixel Magic is a top-notch VFX company that can make it all look seamless (if not flawless). We are lucky to have them in Louisiana, and I just enjoy getting to work with good people with massive talent who have become great friends!
