Erica’s path into construction was unexpected. Her father was a mechanic, and her mother a seamstress and designer, but she found herself in restoration at 18, taking a dispatch job that quickly grew into a full-fledged career. Managing emergency restoration responses for floods and fires, she thrived in the high-pressure, fast-paced environment, helping people recover from a crisis on their home or property. Over the years, she expanded her expertise from restoration to drywall and general contracting, gaining experience in multiple roles of the industry. ?? Erica has experienced both support and obstacles throughout her career. She shares that in one instance, she worked alongside a male peer who supported her expertise being recognized. “That’s a great question—Erica is the specialist on this,” he would say, reinforcing the importance of advocacy for women in leadership. ?? Erica is taking on a new challenge in business development at Arizona Legacy Builders, a woman-owned general contractor. She is eager to bring in new clients, foster relationships, and highlight the strengths of a woman-led construction firm. Additionally, she and others started up BuildHers, a networking group connecting and empowering Arizona women in construction. What started as a small lunch has grown into a thriving community, offering mentorship and support. (Their March event is on Tuesday the 25th at Smiths on 7th at 5:30!) ??Next achievement in progress: Her goal is to make business development second nature while continuing to uplift other women in the industry. Through her work and leadership, she remains committed to helping women build confidence, connections, and careers in construction. NAWIC Greater Phoenix #98 27th Annual Women in Construction Week Event Y’all, what an incredible event! The keynote speaker and panelists were phenomenal, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to be there. But the best part? Sharing what YOU are doing—why telling YOUR stories matters. I loved being able to share insights with new connections on all of the amazing stories I’ve been able to hear from women throughout the trades and construction industry. Not everyone can make it to events like this, whether it’s due to distance, work, or life in general. That’s why taking the personal responsibility to grow your network and be seen in this industry is so important. When you show up, when you take up space, when you confidently own your role—you’re showing the next generation that they can be here too. For the leaders in the industry, open up these events to your teams who don’t normally get the opportunity to attend! I walked into this event alone—which, let’s be real, can be intimidating. But I never really felt alone, because I know we’re all in this together and all of you are with me. ???? and not to mention making new connections throughout the event! If there’s one thing I want you to remember in your career: Keep showing up. Keep pushing forward.
