?? It was great to see CMU President Farnam Jahanian welcome Governor Josh Shapiro back to campus to share how Pennsylvania is leading the nation in bringing AI into government — responsibly and effectively. The Governor just announced the results of a groundbreaking Generative AI Pilot Program in partnership with OpenAI, Carnegie Mellon University, and Pennsylvania’s labor community. ?? The impact? Commonwealth employees using ChatGPT saved an average of 1.5 hours per day — improving workflows for writing, research, summarization, and IT support, all while keeping humans at the center of decision-making. ??? “AI will never replace our workers. Instead, we’re equipping them with the best tools to do what they do best: get stuff done for Pennsylvanians,” said Governor Shapiro. This is the first state-led AI initiative of its kind in the U.S., and it’s just the beginning. The Shapiro Administration plans to expand AI training, explore new applications for service delivery and legal analysis, and establish long-term AI governance. ?? As Chris Lehane, Chief Global Affairs Officer of OpenAI put it: "At our best, we are scaling freedoms — the freedom to learn, to think, to produce, and to create." ?? Pennsylvania is proving what’s possible when innovation and public service work hand in hand.
