Celebrating 50 Years of Stories, Impact, and Community | Pittsburgh Public Theater's 50 Voices Project John Woffington, an English scholar with a concentration in Drama, spent his career teaching and directing school plays at North Allegheny High School. Early in his career, he realized his students did not have many opportunities to experience theater, something he would soon remedy. John supported Pittsburgh Public Theater from their very first season in 1974, often bringing students to matinees that complemented his curriculum. John helped to instill a love of theater for his students. His family was quick to get involved, too. His younger son won a part in GEORGE WASHINGTON SLEPT HERE during The Public’s 15th Season, and his wife, Judy, began volunteering as an usher. After retirement, John joined her. The couple continues to support the legacy of public theater, enriching the lives of students, families, and individuals throughout our region.
