Today, the nonprofit Pittock Mansion Society and Portland Parks and Recreation collaborate to operate the museum and the surrounding 46-acre park. The mission of the Pittock Mansion Society is to inspire understanding and stewardship of Portland history through Pittock Mansion, its collection, and programs.

Join curator, Jennifer Fang, PhD, this Thursday at 1pm as she explores the origins of the Jewish and Chinese communities in Oregon that inspire From Near and Far: Chinese and Jewish Americans and the Making of Portland. More about the exhibit: From Near and Far: Chinese and Jewish Americans and the Making of Portland Though often overlooked, Chinese and Jewish Portlanders are among the city’s founders. They have lived here since the late 1840s, shortly before the city’s incorporation in 1851. Their contributions in business, agriculture, and industry transformed Portland from a 2.1 square-mile stumptown into a city. Faced with different, but overlapping challenges and prejudices, Chinese and Jewish Portlanders created resilient and dynamic communities that shifted and broadened the definitions of what it means to an Oregonian and a Portlander.

The Pittock Mansion is looking for a variety of volunteers!? Greeters, Rovers, Architectural Tour Guides, and Behind the Scenes Tour Guides. The?Greeter?role will assist primarily in the Mansion or the Gate Lodge and act as a main greeter at either location, checking the tickets and sharing basic introductory information with guests. The Mansion?Rover?role will need to work with a radio, assist with elevator runs, and keep an eye on the collections while also assisting guests with any questions that may arise. Architectural Tour Guides?groups through the Pittock campus while giving an overview of the campus and gardens. Behind the Scenes Tours Guides?groups through the basement and 3rd floor of the mansion giving background information that's not widely shared throughout the general mansion.? The greeters and rover shifts will be Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, between 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM.? The Tour Guide positions schedules have yet to be set.? If this is something you are interested in please email?[email protected].
