Re-Ranking Law Schools. Which schools perform the best? This analysis is built on hard data rather than reputation surveys or subjective opinions. The rankings are derived from the 2023 American Bar Association (ABA) 509 Disclosures, which provide standardized, annually reported data from nearly 200 accredited law schools across the country. These disclosures offer critical insights into faculty-student ratios, grant support, tuition costs, law clinic availability, and field placements—factors that directly impact students' educational experiences and financial realities. In addition to the ABA data, this ranking incorporates employment outcomes for judicial clerkships, drawing from publicly available employment reports to assess how well schools place graduates into both federal and state-level clerkships—a key indicator of post-graduation opportunities. Finally, faculty scholarship is measured using Social Science Research Network (SSRN) data, which tracks download counts per faculty author to gauge the real-world reach and influence of legal scholarship. Unlike conventional rankings that assess faculty prestige based on institutional reputation, SSRN provides a quantifiable measure of scholarly impact, showing which schools produce widely read and influential legal research. By leveraging objective data from these sources, this ranking shifts the focus away from elite name recognition alone and instead prioritizes practical educational value, financial accessibility, and real career outcomes—the factors that truly matter to prospective law students. In the end this creates a ranking that includes at the top certain elite (T14) law schools but also highlight certain schools below the notorious T14 including?George Mason University - Antonin Scalia Law School?and?University of Minnesota Law School along with lower traditionally ranked schools including?Texas A&M University School of Law?and University of Pittsburgh School of Law. The article link is in the comments. This is a paywalled article but if you are a law student and interested in reading it then sign up for the free trial (feel free to cancel after the trial). I'm also going to run a largely discounted subscription for all students so please let me know if you are interested.
