Yesterday, we had the opportunity to showcase some of our projects, including a robotic arm, battle bots, and the rover project, at the Pittsburgh Robotics Network Discovery Day 2024. It was an enjoyable experience where we connected with various robotics companies. We also demonstrated the robotic arm, which uses computer vision to track and mimic hand movements - a feature that drew significant interest from those who stopped by the table.

Yesterday evening, our organization hosted a robotics simulation workshop led by guest speaker Sidney Nimako-Boateng, a Master's student in the Robotics Institute at CMU. During the session, students explored virtual environment creation with MuJoCo, building an inverted pendulum model and applying control strategies. We dove into Proximal Policy Optimization and Gymnasium reinforcement learning frameworks, gaining hands-on experience with these essential industry tools. Sidney also shared insights into MuJoCo's wide-ranging applications and prevalence across industries. A fantastic learning opportunity for all!

This weekend the battle bots team got to compete at the Xtreme STEM competition for their collegiate clash in Springfield Ohio. The team is led by Olivia Sobek an electrical engineering student who is also the president. The team got to compete three combat robots including two-three pounds and a fifteen pound bot. Thank you to our sponsor companies including Aerotech, Inc. and Roaring Creek Machine Co. And thanks to Fresh Prints for making such awesome shirts for the team to wear!

Thank you to Deeplocal for having us today and to Diana Avart for giving us a tour! We had the opportunity to explore various departments within the company and understand the components of creative technology. Additionally, we gained insight into the integration of engineering aspects for each project.

Today, we received a tour and presentation from Near Earth Autonomy. We learned about the impact of autonomous flight scaling from drones to aircrafts as well as perception and how the autonomous system navigates the surrounding area. Thank you to Tom Galluzzo, Marcel Bergerman, and Karen W. for having us today!
