#goodread on the importance of sustainability for business success in 2025. "Business can be the most powerful force for good when it prioritizes collaboration and shared responsibility. Moving from a “me-first” to a?“we-first”?mindset isn’t just an ideal—it’s a necessity in today’s world. As we step into 2025, this approach feels more urgent than ever. In the context of concurrent geopolitical, climate, and policy challenges, the business case for sustainability is clear and compelling." Intrigued? Weekend rerun! #knowbeforeyougo #solar Question: What are the #financing options for onsite solar? Answer: Typically, there are three financing options for both private and public sector companies. The option you choose depends on several factors, including any budget limitations, debt capacity or other restrictions your company has in place for such projects. Cash Purchase or Capital Expense (CAPEX): This option requires budget and money. The owner of the system can monetize the incentives such as tax credits and depreciation while paying a levelized cost of energy of 2-5 cents/kwh of solar generation. Debt-Financed or Capital Lease: This is a typical loan from a financial institution that is financed over a fixed term length. For debt-financed systems, the lessee can still monetize the tax credit and depreciation incentives that are typically monetized under a Capital Purchase, however the projects can achieve positive cash flow in the first year while using internal capital for other operational needs such as production. The owner of the solar energy system is a lessee to the lessor (bank or other financier), the owner still gets the incentives without the upfront investment and the system can achieve positive cash flow in year one. Operational Leases/Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)/Energy as a Service (EaaS): These all have a similar transactional structure and allow for a 3rd party owner to own and operate the system while monetizing the incentives. The facility owner leasing the system still gets to enjoy the energy reduction benefits from solar while keeping the asset off of the company books since the lease/PPA payment is considered an operating expense. This type of financing is ideal for agencies and #businesses that can’t use the incentives, don’t have a CAPEX budget, or have reached their debt capacity and can’t take on a loan.

"The sustainability movement is facing unprecedented challenges, threatening to undo decades of hard-fought progress overnight. Many are feeling lost and wondering how to navigate this turbulence. It’s important to recognize that in any transition, the closer we get to new systems emerging, the harder the existing systems push back. Also, change isn’t linear. The #sustainability movement has had setbacks before. One step forward, two steps back is the reality of any transition of any system, from food to energy to health to education. So how can we respond?" Read the full article at Trellis Group here:https://lnkd.in/eN4Vcwj5 #goodread #foodfortthought

We're wrapping up our Friday Featurette series with the guy who started it all, Pisgah Energy's President, Evan Becka! Pisgah Energy: What's your favorite way to start the day? Evan: My perfect morning: drink salt water right after I wake up, 60-75 minute strength training or cardio, 3-5 minute cold plunge in the river, breathing exercises while grounding, get sunlight in the eyes for added bonus. Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you can't work without? Evan: That’s easy – my team. All of our staff is incredibly professional, and has a very high level of care and concern for our clients and projects. Our team is the best! Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you're currently learning or would like to learn? Evan: I’m learning how to lean into resistance more and more. Doing hard and difficult things that I really don’t want to do makes me a better person. Life gets easier the more I lean into resistance. I wish I had learned this years ago. Pisgah Energy: What's a book or podcast you'd recommend to others and why? Evan: I recently finished reading the Lost City of Z, by David Grann. It’s about British Explorer Percy Fawcett’s search for an ancient civilization in Amazonia in the early 20th?Century, and also about the book’s author, David Grann retracing Fawcett’s footsteps to try and determine what happened to him on his quest to find the Lost City of Z. This is a highly suspenseful read that I recommend for anyone that enjoys stories about exploration and ancient civilizations. Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you're excited about in the coming year at work? Evan: I’m excited about our largest design-build project to date - a 5MW rooftop solar PV project located at the Greensboro North Carolina airport. These rooftop systems are spread over 6 separate aircraft hangars with a good mix of flush mounted and ballasted arrays. Each building has unique challenges. The fun doesn't have to stop here - swing by https://pisgahenergy.com/ to learn more!

The wait is over! This week's Friday Featurette highlights our Operations Manager, Phelps Clarke. Pisgah Energy: What's your favorite way to start the day? Phelps: Slowly, alone, with coffee and a cozy fire to reflect on. Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you can't work without? Phelps: The internet. Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you're currently learning or would like to learn? Phelps: Mindfulness. I got a meditation app called Waking Up to get me started. Pisgah Energy: What's one book or podcast you recommend and why? Phelps: One of my go-to?podcasts is Making Sense. I think the host, Sam Harris is really brilliant. He's got a very centrist and logical political worldview that I appreciate. He does a lot of great interviews and he's very wise. I think it's fascinating. I could also tell you all the things I think are wrong with his podcast and worldview, but that's another conversation. I'm happy to discuss that on request. Pisgah Energy: What's one thing you're excited about in the coming year at work? Phelps: I'm super excited about growing my team, working with our new construction manager and continuing to develop the operations department. Have we sparked your curiosity?
