Young people across the Pacific are witnessing the impacts of climate change in their homes and feel compelled to protect what’s theirs for future generations. They are taking action, just like our President, who joined forces to take #climatechange to the worlds highest court. Dear Judges of the International Court of Justice, We have the right to a healthy environment. Yet, this right is being violated as the system continues to fail us. We rely on international laws to protect us, but what good are they if they are not upheld? We are warriors in this fight for climate justice - but even warriors need allies. Will you stand with us? _______________________ The #ICJ is making history, deliberating on its first-ever advisory opinion on #ClimateChange and States’ #HumanRights obligations. This decision could change everything. Listen to more powerful climate stories on the #WitnessStand and stand with us as a #ClimateWitness in the BIGGEST climate case of our time. In December 2024, 96 States and 11 international organizations had the opportunity to plead before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague and present their arguments on States’ climate obligations under international law and human rights. This level of participation in ICJ oral hearings marks an unprecedented moment in history. The upcoming release of the advisory opinion from the Court has the potential to become a vital tool in the fight for climate justice and a sustainable future, to hold States accountable for failing to uphold their obligations under international law, and to protect and guarantee fundamental human rights and the rights of those most affected by this crisis, including Small Island Developing States and future generations. While the Court is deliberating, the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ), and Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change are hosting not one but two webinars to discuss and reflect on the arguments presented during the hearings. A stellar list of panelists will look ahead at the forthcoming delivery of the advisory opinion and consider ideal outcomes and accountability pathways forward after the delivery. From the largest ocean to the highest court! Pacific women are reshaping international law. The #ClimateICJAO had more women speakers than any other advisory opinion. Women are leading this fight, and today, we honour their power. Happy International Women’s Day! ???? #IWD25

"Tok Tok and wakem emti promises hem no enaf - Talk and empty promises are not enough." Linford's island home is disappearing, yet those responsible still refuse to act. His people deserve justice. The #ClimateICJAO can hold polluters accountable and push them to support those suffering the most from the #climatecrisis. ??Listen to more captivating climate stories on the #WitnessStand and stand with us as a #ClimateWitness in the BIGGEST climate case of our time.
