Since 1952, PRCI has been recognized around the world as a unique forum within the energy pipeline industry delivering great value to its members and the industry — both quantitative and qualitative — through the development and deployment of research solutions to the operational, maintenance, and regulatory challenges that face it. PRCI is dedicated to assuring the maximum efficiency of research development and deployment through a highly-leveraged funding model of member and external funding, information sharing, cooperative project development, and the broad dissemination and application of its research results. Along with funding, the strength of the collaborative model stems from the contributions to PRCI of member technical and operations experts and the ongoing support to them from PRCI and their companies. The PRCI Research Exchange (REX) 2025 Conference kicked off yesterday in Houston, Texas, with an incredible start. Review a recent research project undertaken by PRCI. ?? ? This 2024 project recommended optimized non-destructive examination (NDE) delay times to inspect welds after potential hydrogen-induced cracks could form. ? Streamlining delay times minimizes unnecessary waiting. This speeds up return-to-service tasks like recoating and backfilling while ensuring safety. The study analyzed hydrogen effusion rates from modern welding electrodes and modeled typical repair scenarios using Type B pressure sleeves or similar fittings. ? The information from this study can be used as guidance for selecting NDE delay times for gas and liquid pipelines under various conditions. ? Last week, the TDC tested NDE effectiveness on coated vs. uncoated pipe.? ? In partnership with several vendors, PRCI executed a test to determine the extent that NDE methods are impacted by the presence of a pipe’s coating. Our procedure included: ? 1. Introduction of flaws in the test pipe’s ID and OD 2. NDE inspection of the uncoated pipe 3. Coating application to the pipe 4. NDE inspection of the coated pipe ?
