From ensuring that freight trains and trucks properly display hazmat placards to inspecting underground energy and hazardous liquid and gas pipelines, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is working to protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives. To do this, the agency establishes national policy, sets and enforces standards, educates, and conducts research to prevent incidents. We also prepare the public and first responders to reduce consequences if an incident does occur. ? At PHMSA, we're seeking talented and diverse professionals who want meaningful and challenging careers. PHMSA develops and enforces regulations for the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of the nation's 3.3 million mile pipeline system and more than 1.2 million daily shipments of hazardous materials by land, sea, and air. ? PHMSA is one of ten U.S. Department of Transportation modal operating administrations and is comprised of the Office of Pipeline Safety and the Office of Hazardous Materials Safety, with five regional field offices across the nation.

We’ve announced a proposed rule to improve hazardous materials transportation supply chains in the U.S. that are essential to U.S. manufacturers. ?? https://lnkd.in/ef-Dw_3s Here's what the proposed regulatory changes will do ?? 1) Reduce burdens for truck drivers by simplifying hazard communication requirements for fuels including gasoline that are transported in tanker trucks. 2) Encourage innovation and safety improvements to hazardous materials rail cars by reducing review times for tank car design improvements and addressing National Transportation Safety Board recommendations regarding improved design standards for rail tank cars. 3) Modernize standards for vital agricultural equipment by codifying manufacturing standards for newly built fertilizer tanks and permitting the use of video and fiber optics technologies to inspect and calibrate cargo tanks in both agricultural and non-agricultural operations.
