Attention #Hollywood hopefuls! If you are tired of the #doomscroll that has become the #entertainment and #media news cycle, we got you covered! ___ No one outside Hollywood seems to be paying close attention to what has been happening in the economy of making, distributing, and promoting visual stories as much as Hollywood currently does. Two weeks ago, while at a wedding in New York, a fun couple from San Francisco started a conversation with my husband and me. They referenced enough pop culture and film that I figured they just had to know what’s been going on, so I lamented,?“It's been a tough two years; I'm not sure what to do.” Jetlagged, a glass of wine deep, and I’ll say anything to strangers. Vulnerability makes other people super comfortable, I promise. Their wide eyes showed confusion in response:?" Really? I had no idea! I thought the strikes were over?” The strikes are over, and if you are reading this, you are likely involved in the entertainment/media business, and you know, nothing is like it used to be pre-strike, pre-pandemic, pre-Warner-Discovery merger, pre-whatever-the-fuck-Peacock is. But I’m not here to feed the engine that has become the Hollywood un-hopeful news cycle.?I am not! But. So. Many. Are. "Bring It On," is this week's episode on Save the Last Pod. Watching this movie twenty-years later made us question whether we saw its underlying messages then as we do now. If you've seen this recently what do you remember about first viewing it? https://lnkd.in/gYgiHX-i #podcasting #filmmaking #movies

This week on Save the Last Pod, Amy and Dan get in the roller coaster seat to discuss 1996's "FEAR," which saw Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg in their first leading roles. An essential part of this conversation focused on that infamous scene that is so NSFW. In fact, the carnival scenes - including that one - were only loosely scripted and were far from as they wound up in our memories and on the final print. In an interview earlier this year, Reese claims she was only informed of the actions of the roller coaster scene on set just moments before they were to film it. Feeling uncomfortable, she asked for a body double and was denied one. Reese Witherspoon now credits this as one of her driving motivations for producing. Telling Harper's Bazar: “I didn’t have control over it,” Witherspoon said. “It wasn’t explicit in the script that that’s what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own and then asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no. It wasn’t a particularly great experience.” Witherspoon continued, “I’m certainly not traumatized or anything by it, but it was formative. It made me understand where my place was in the pecking order of filmmaking. I think it’s another one of those stories that made me want to be an agent for change and someone who maybe can be in a better leadership position to tell stories from a?female perspective instead of from the male gaze.” Listen on #ApplePodcasts. https://lnkd.in/g38pCBjt
