So fingerprints were collected at a crime scene, what happens next? Those prints take a trip over to our Automated Fingerprint Imaging System (AFIS) Division and are given to a latent print examiner. National Forensic Science Week is a time to recognize the hard work of our forensic science specialists and latent print examiners. Without both of these teams, cases don't get solved.

Shining a light on our unseen protectors this National Crime and Intelligence Analyst Appreciation Day! A huge thank you to our law enforcement analysts tirelessly sifting through crime trends and providing invaluable insights to deputies and detectives. The work you do is pivotal to the success of our investigations and ultimately the safety of the county!

This National Forensic Science Week, we thought we'd share one of the incredible tools we have at our disposal to aid in the documentation and collection of evidence at a crime scene. FARO essentially recreates a crime scene you can visit and walk through. This allows detectives, attorneys, and even juries the opportunity to revisit the crime scene and all the evidence exactly as it was.

Members of our Negotiator Response Team (NRT) joined crisis negotiator teams from all over the state in attending the 2024 Crisis Negotiation Seminar & Challenge in Hillsborough County this week. Teams engaged in a series of presentations and case studies relative to contemporary issues in crisis negotiation as well as an intense, full-scale scenario, held at the Amalie Arena, that gave them the opportunity to put the skills they learned into practice. NRT is a call-out team made up sworn members that respond to calls where a person is in crisis - they may be threatening suicide or they are a violent subject has barricaded themselves with a hostage. They are called to deescalate the situation and bring a peaceful resolution. Often deploying alongside SWAT, these members are known to have incredible active-listening skills, empathy, and determination to help people in crisis. We are so thankful to have these highly trained and caring members helping the citizens of Pinellas. If you or someone you know is in crisis or experiencing suicidal thoughts, call or text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.

National Forensic Science Week encourages us to recognize the important role that proper forensic science plays in the investigation of crime throughout the nation. At PCSO we are proudly accredited by ANSI National Accreditation Board for our forensic disciplines of crime scene investigations and friction ridge detail. We are thrilled to have the members of our Forensic Science Division and the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) Division as a part of the PCSO family. Thank you for all that you do!
