Preserving nature in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Ensuring everyone has access to its natural resources and history.
关于我们
Pinelands Preservation Alliance is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization committed to the ongoing protection of the New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve. We promote wide public engagement in their preservation and advance the acquisition of land and development rights by private and public conservation agencies. In addition to this work, the Alliance has multiple initiatives: Pinelands Adventures, an outdoor recreation program aimed at fostering public understanding of and devotion to the Pinelands; Rancocas Creek Farm a sustainable, chemical-free farm connected to our mission to protect the Pinelands; AccessNature, a movement to increase open space opportunities throughout New Jersey for people of all abilities; and the Landscape Makeover Program, green infrastructure designed to transform lawn and archaic stormwater systems into native habitat that also improves surface and groundwater quality. We are dedicated to furthering justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in our staff and our work. Everyone should have access to recreation, clean air and water, and the scenic beauty the Pinelands provides.

Parts of New Jersey, including most of the Pine Barrens, are now in what is considered a severe drought. Conditions of low humidity and gusty winds will prevail until Thursday evening, prompting a red flag warning for fire danger. Fire danger is very high for the entire state meaning no camp fires and no agricultural burning. https://lnkd.in/efxr8rzQ

National Deaf Awareness Month is in September. This month is dedicated to advocating for increased awareness of the needs and desires of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and to foster understanding, support, and recognition of the contributions the deaf community has provided to our society. Together, through awareness, we can create a world where every voice is heard and valued! Thank you to Octavio Cuenca Maldonado for sharing his experience with us, and to John Gattuso for putting this video together! This video is a part of the “The Nature: Accessible for All Campaign”. This campaign is a collaborative effort by individuals, public agencies and nonprofits to ensure that people with disabilities, their families, and allies enjoy New Jersey’s extraordinary natural places. I'm excited to use my oceanography training and science communication skills as the first speaker in a webinar series on offshore wind for the NJ Wind Works coalition! I'll discuss how the ocean impacts our climate—and vice versa—to answer the question: “how big of a benefit will offshore wind development be in the climate fight?” #OffshoreWind #SciComm https://lnkd.in/ecSKUhy3

We are very excited that Jonathan Wetstein and Kelvin M. Wagner Jr. are part of the Pinelands Preservation Alliance team!
I'm excited to announce that this year, the Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) has generously offered to permanently house my Camden-based collaboration Roots to Prevention (RTP) alongside its existing environmental justice programs. IN ADDITION-- I've accepted their offer to continue this work as a full-time employee, serving the Pinelands Region as their Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Advocate. Earlier this month, I began working with a team to enhance food access and food production challenges across a 7-county region, including America's oldest National Reserve—1.1 million acres of preserved wildlife habitat with a UNESCO biosphere sitting atop one of the largest and most pristine aquifer systems in the world. This non-profit conservation organization is a leader in protecting the Pinelands Reserve. They became a vital collaborator of RTP last year, leveraging their farm/headquarters (Rancocas Creek Farm) in Southampton, NJ, to serve as Camden's produce aggregator. This partnership makes it possible Camden-grown produce to be sold to institutions like Virtua Health, generating income for local urban farmers. I am beyond thrilled to mark the end of my 14 years of food systems work as an independent contractor, and begin this new chapter, working out of an 18th-century farmhouse!

A great intern and a great program! We hosted Gianna as a remote Science Policy Scholar in Residence last year to help us with renewable energy research & advocacy. Looking forward to seeing what your next steps are Gianna White!
"My interest in science policy stems from my goal to help build more sustainable cities and make sure no one is left behind in the process," says NSPN member Gianna White. "During my undergraduate years, I engaged in climate advocacy, starting with March for Science NYC, a science advocacy non-profit emphasizing science communication, diplomacy, and human & environmental rights preservation. As I transitioned to graduate school, I began to study the intersection of science and policy academically and recently completed a master's in engineering and public policy." Gianna White is a GEM fellow (The National GEM Consortium) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and a recent participant in NSPN's #SciPolScholars program.
