???? Debut harvest for Florida's Pine Island Redfish ?? The #Florida #RAS #aquaculture start-up, co-funded by Megan Sorby and Tom Sorby, is celebrating its first commercial harvest of #reddrum, with its #fish available in Publix Super Markets and selected restaurants in Florida. ?? “Since launching #PineIslandRedfish late in 2023, we have concentrated on our biological prep work at our demonstration scale facility. And now, our efforts are paying off. March 2025 marks our first #harvest and now we begin to fulfill the strong #retail and #restaurant demand for this incredible fish across the US," said CEO Megan Sorby. ? COMMUNITY is KEY! We are so energized by visitors to the farm, and the hundred 5th graders that joined us from Altavista Elementary were certainly full of it! Funded by the Green Jean Foundation, these kids got straight to work checking out our #redfish, preparing our #mangroves for repotting, and helping clip and start new beds of #seapurslane. They may have eaten more of our #seavegetables than planting, but we are ok with that! It is engagement with our community members like this that stokes our fire - these kids remind us of the importance of #seafood grown right and how our #regenerative #aquaculture is improving the resilience of our coastal ecosystems already

Starting 2025 off with a MANG! ???? We are so grateful to have spent the first weekend of the year with amazing volunteers and community members on our Pine Island site cleaning out some old infrastructure to make way for our BRAND NEW MANGROVE NURSERY in collaboration with MANG! This is the start of developing our new home and a major milestone for Pine Island Redfish and our work with MANG. So excited to prep and transfer the thousands of west coast bound mangroves here for growing strong ahead of replanting! More than this, what a privilege to spend the weekend with a community of volunteers so engaged and interested in #regenerative #aquaculture and #mangrove #restoration! The greatest impact we can make as aquaculture producers is to build #community relationships and create an ecosystem of #resilience and #sustainability in our food production. Thank you to these committed neighbors and colleagues! We are so lucky to have you!

There’s no better way to start the year than digging through a pile of salty, black gold from our #redfish that will be fueling potting mix for our next batch of #mangroves!
