May's Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) report comes at 8:30 am. Recent economic data has suggested economic growth is slowing, and this supports the view the Fed may start cutting interest rates sooner rather than later.? It's been a great first half of the year, as the bull case for AI technology, coupled with lower interest rates, pushed stocks to record highs. Markets are pricing in two rate cuts in 2024 (see chart below), which seems entirely plausible. Corporate fundamentals remain stable as investors anticipate a "soft landing" for the US economy.? As always, there are plenty of concerns surrounding geopolitical tensions, the upcoming presidential election, and Fed policy, but these are "known unknowns" (Nick Colas' term, not mine). Investing is never as easy as it seems in bull markets, so let's see if stocks can continue to climb the "wall of worry" higher. US equity futures are flat after closing below all-time highs yesterday, with tech stocks, and Nvidia specifically, leading the way lower. Triple witching options expiration today will cause some large volume prints and movement in individual stocks. Here's a definition for those unfamiliar with the term:?https://lnkd.in/ekH2iFHH. The Financial Times published an article today about Softbank founder Masayoshi Son and his "grand ambition" to create an era of artificial intelligence in which computers are significantly smarter than humans. Maybe Masa Son should worry more about getting his trades right and making money for investors. Per the WSJ:?In 2019, the Vision Fund?sold its entire 4.9% stake?in Nvidia and booked a $3.3 billion return on its investment. It seemed like a big win, since SoftBank had spent about $700 million for its stake. Had SoftBank’s fund held on to its Nvidia stake, it would be worth around $160 billion today, meaning SoftBank missed out on a gain of more than $150 billion by selling in 2019." ???????? ???? ???????? ???? ?????? ?????? ???????? ???????? Stocks cheered in a soft CPI print, showing inflation continues to creep lower, and rate hikes are officially off the table. Recession and stagflation fears have pulled a Homer Simpson and faded into the background (link for the boomers who don't get the joke https://lnkd.in/eswU4JPi). Tech stocks were a beneficiary and are up premarket with some follow-through after The Godfather's press conference yesterday. ? Semiconductor stocks remain in pole position (which was an incredible Atari game?https://lnkd.in/eA7h7N-N)?after Broadcom (AVGO) posted blowout earnings and followed Nvidia's playbook with a 10-for-1 stock split. I'm sure equity sales traders are happy to see these stocks finally split, as they get paid on a cents-per-share commission basis.
