We’re in the era of ‘eras’ – of deep infatuation with things, people, and ideas. Social media is in essence an infatuation machine, whereby we gaze endlessly at the lives of other people, catching ourselves in an algorithmic loop that feeds our obsessions. ? ? As biologists were decoding the genome, tech giants and marketers have been busy hacking our dopamine and pleasure systems, creating campaigns, apps, and products that play into our cave-man brain wiring and deliver us quick-hits of rewards – the feeling of being a part of an ‘in’ group, the high of a ‘like,’ the insatiable nature of an endless scroll. ? ? What would have been considered mania a mere century ago – intense feelings for someone or something often characterized by irrationality, passion, and a deep sense of connection – is now ploddingly referred to as just “culture.” ? ? At Pinch, we’re obsessed with, well, obsession. And other juicy, complex emotional states. We are, after all, not human beings but rather human feelings. Irrational, emotional creatures whose realities change in accordance to the weather, the layout of a room, the food we eat, the people within our closest proximity. ? ? This season, we explore infatuation. We give an intimate, inside look at some of our favorite work; we tap our team and exploit their latest deep cuts, current crushes, and odd obsessions. Two decades in the creative and production space, and I've seen countless pop-ups create incredible buzz—lines down the block, social media on fire. But after the doors close, what’s left for the brand? A handful of social posts?? Temporary excitement is great, but does it build loyalty? In my latest opinion piece, that got published on WARC, I’ve explored this question and examined the varying impacts of short-term activations and long-term engagements. My conclusion is that in today’s overcrowded markets, where brands are struggling to build loyalty and continuity in engagement, intermittent short-term engagements will not always work. We're excited to share that our work for Amazon Ads "A'Maison" was shortlisted by The Drum for best B2B Experience or Event category ?? "For its third year, Amazon brought together its universe of brands through a physical activation at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Amazon welcomed customers and press into A’Maison: The House of Amazon, a fully-functional cultural village overlooking the Mediterranean sea. With sister agencies SALT PRODUCTIONS and Pinch supporting design and production, they created a must-see destination situated in the idyllic Old Port. A'Maison played on the pronunciation of the brand name and literal transition to 'house', drawing inspiration from France's iconic fashion houses that line the Cannes Croisette. The goal? Establish themself as a home of cultural creation and exchange, unified by the launch of their new From Ads to Zeitgeist research. Across the holistic A’Maison experiential — physical space design, interactive display of offerings, day-to-night programming, out-of-home billboard, and scaled digital marketing campaign — Amazon built a steady drumbeat of messaging that Amazon’s engaged communities and premium content fosters connection, inspires creativity, and propels commerce forward. Guests were empowered to immerse themselves into the experiential, tune into thought-provoking sessions, partake in customer meetings and networking spaces, and jam out to a packed concert. Amazon told a harmoniously united story at Cannes on how to engage with the cultural zeitgeist." Our 2D Designer, Jan Walsh headed down the eye-catching blue carpet to A’Maison at Amazon Port and gave us the lowdown:? ? ‘Amazon took me on an exciting journey through its key platforms, each offering a unique and engaging experience. Playing into the French Maison theme, the space was covered in detailed awnings and florals galore! ? ? Some of the highlights include: ? ? ? Twitch QR codes that unlocked an AR filter to reveal key facts and bring areas of discovery to life.? ? ? Amazon Web Services (AWS)?invited me to take a photo on a giant ‘easel’ that used AI to quickly transform me into a stunning painting in front of an iconic Cannes background.? ? ? Amazon Prime Sports created interactive sports props linked to TV screens, which played highlight reels as I interacted with each corresponding sport item.? ? ? The Amazon Port Plaza Stage Spotlight featured sessions from leading names, including Gwyneth Paltrow and Lauren Anderson, throughout the week.? ? ? Various areas for relaxation and networking were available, including branded table tennis, foosball tables, Le café which served up a range of refreshments, and plenty of meeting areas.’? ?
