Premier Inc.'s PINC AI? Applied Sciences recently partnered with Henry Ford Health, Henry Ford Innovations and Eli Lilly and Company to develop a structure, approach and discussion guide in an effort to obtain learnings and insights from providers to better understand the socioeconomic drivers of health disparities for patients with Ulcerative Colitis (UC). The study showed the following factors as the most prevalent barriers to patients seeking preventative and timely access to care: ? Experiencing lower socioeconomic status ? Long wait times to see doctors for screenings and patient reluctance or difficulty in seeking and accessing healthcare ? Scheduling conflicts and stigma with clinical trial participation ? Financial issues, including insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs for expensive medications, testing and hospitalization ? Health literacy and a lack of understanding of the chronic nature of UC Because UC may lead to complications that develop over time, become serious or life-threatening, and may require hospitalization or surgery, it is imperative that we work to increase health equity to support better diagnosis, management, and treatment for UC.
