Last fall, Dylan G. had the privilege of exploring the capabilities of the Quantum-Systems Trinity Pro, a standout in the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) sector. While quadcopters remain a popular choice in the industry, the advancements in VTOL technology are reshaping our approach to aerial surveying, especially in terms of capability, versatility, and affordability. Key Features of the Trinity Pro: - Extended Flight Time: Up to 90 minutes on a single charge. - Versatile Payload Options: Accommodates various sensors and instruments. - User-Friendly Software: Simplifies mission planning for efficient operation. - Portability: Designed for easy setup and transport. Field Application Insights: In a collaborative effort with a local surveying firm, Dylan demonstrated the Trinity Pro’s efficiency by capturing extensive datasets in just a few hours—a task that traditionally could stretch over several days. Specifically, Dylan covered over 800 acres for photogrammetry in under two hours and an additional 300 acres using LiDAR in just 60 minutes. For comparison, a typical quadcopter system would require more than five hours to capture similar RGB data, not including the extended processing time for over a thousand images. The Trinity Pro not only accelerates data capture but also streamlines the entire process from collection to delivery, proving to be a powerful tool in the VTOL arena. For those looking to handle large datasets or seeking a robust yet straightforward system, the Trinity Pro is undoubtedly a game-changer. Every day, drone technology pushes the boundaries of what's possible. Today, I want to share a remarkable video (courtesy of Ted Strazimiri), showcasing a groundbreaking collaboration with Aren Together, they've successfully identified over 15,000 anomalies, specifically cracks, on a runway. What's truly astounding about this project is the efficiency of the data capture and processing. The techniques used allowed for the generation of results in a mere fraction of the traditional time. This focus on detecting and quantifying runway cracks demonstrates a significant leap in operational efficiency—what would typically take months, now completed swiftly and effectively. This initiative began as a student research project in 2020 under Ted's guidance at Breno Alvarenga. It has since evolved into a full-scale operational success, thanks to diverse contributions from innovative hardware, cutting-edge software, and, most importantly, a dedicated team of professionals. What are your thoughts not the use of drones for data gathering on projects like this when compared to the old fashioned way of data gathering? Ted has a webinar with all the technical details of this project that you can view with the link in the comments below!

A new and interesting update to the drone market, specifically here in the USA is the introduction of the Anzu Robotics Raptor Series! These drones are claimed to be “engineered with precision”and are setting new standards in the US drone industry. The Raptor drone can be used for public safety, utilities, or resource conservation ? Features include: * Up to 45 minutes of flight time * Advanced visual and thermal imaging * RTK technology for pinpoint accuracy * Data security with all operations based in the USA This raises an important question: Could the Anzu Robotics Raptor series, built on the DJI platform, be the solution to a potential ban on Chinese drones in the USA? While competitors like the Skydio X10 and Brinc Lemur 2 exist, the Raptor series is based on the technical foundations of the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise platform, which has already proven itself as a reliable workhorse. However, can it position the US drone market to excel at performing within government contracts, or does it fall short of the capabilities offered by the full DJI lineup? This development is undoubtedly a positive step towards enhancing US-based drone options—even if these drones are not manufactured in the US. What do you think about Anzu's strategy? Congrats Randall Warnas for an awesome launch!
