Hey Pike Origin community, I hope you all had a wonderful start to your week! With many companies large and small making steps towards a sustainable future, I want to take a moment and shout out Vanguard for driving the community aspect of sustainability in such a great way. At Vanguard, they have dedicated crew members in charge of making an impact in their local neighborhoods through volunteering and community initiatives. In 2022 alone, their efforts donated an incredible 2.1 million meals to hunger relief agencies. ?? Additionally, Vanguard established community gardens back in 2012, where employee volunteers roll up their sleeves to plant, maintain, and harvest fresh produce - all of which gets donated to local food banks, pantries, and centers. It's amazing to see a company empowering its people to give back and be part of their local communities in such hands-on, sustainable ways. Good work Vanguard! ???? #communitydriven #Sustainability #leadingtheway https://lnkd.in/gh_bpVWx

Beyond having the right leaders in place, businesses face challenges that deter climate action, such as upfront costs and concerns about short-term economic impact. However, innovative economic models, strategic partnerships, and financial restructuring can incentivize the adoption of sustainable practices. Strategic partnerships, such as public-private collaborations and supply chain partnerships, can help spread costs and risks associated with sustainability initiatives. Also, financial restructuring, including green financing and sustainability-linked loans, can provide incentives for businesses to invest in climate solutions. #ClimateAction #Business #Sustainability
Hey everyone, I hope your week has been going well and that you enjoyed Earth Day! ?? Today, I'd like to chat a bit about leadership and coordination and how they play into creating a sustainable future. When it comes to taking meaningful action on climate change, having strong leadership and effective coordination is key. Unfortunately, we've seen that investment in tackling climate change isn't always evenly distributed across countries, sectors, or businesses. Join me as we explore how we can drive sustainability forward through impactful leadership. #ClimateAction #Leadership #Sustainability Expanding on Leadership and Coordination: Leadership and coordination are crucial in our fight against climate change. Leaders who prioritize sustainability can inspire significant change within their organizations and beyond. By championing initiatives and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, businesses can make a real difference in reducing the impact of climate change. However, it's important to remember that climate change affects different regions and industries in unique ways. That's why collaboration and partnership are so vital. By working together, we can pool our efforts and resources to tackle global challenges head-on. #futureleaders #changemakers

Very useful terms - now to action. To build a circular economy, firms could benefit from product lifecycle analysis. There are big opportunities to convert end of life to new products.
Circular Economy Terminologies ?? In the face of mounting environmental challenges, the transition to a circular economy has become an imperative for both planetary health and societal well-being. This economy is defined by systems and processes that aim to eliminate waste, circulate resources, and regenerate natural systems. Here, ten critical concepts underpin this transformative approach: ? Circular Economy: A regenerative system where products and materials are kept in use, mimicking natural ecosystems where waste serves as a resource. ? Closed-loop System: Emphasizes the continuous reuse and recycling of resources, reducing the need for new resource extraction and minimizing waste. ? Cradle-to-Cradle Design: Focuses on the entire lifecycle of products, from material sourcing to end-of-life disposal, ensuring perpetual recyclability or upcycling without loss of quality. ? Extended Producer Responsibility: Holds producers accountable for the environmental impact of their products across the lifecycle, including disposal and recycling. ? Product-as-a-Service (PaaS): A model where access to a product or service is sold rather than the physical product itself, encouraging durability and recyclability. ? Regenerative Design: Aims to create systems that restore ecosystems and resources, going beyond minimizing harm to enhancing environmental health. ? Upcycling: Transforms waste materials into new products of higher value or quality, adding value to the original material rather than breaking it down. ? Circular Procurement: Involves purchasing practices that prioritize products and services with high environmental and social performance, including circularity. ? Circular Business Models: Innovative business approaches that emphasize resource efficiency, sustainability, and the circular flow of materials. ? Circular Design: The practice of designing products and systems with circular principles, considering durability, reparability, and end-of-life recyclability. The urgency for a shift towards a circular economy is clear; it presents a systemic solution to reduce waste, enhance sustainability, and promote a harmonious relationship between people and the planet. This shift requires reimagining traditional business models, product designs, and consumer behaviors to prioritize resource efficiency, sustainability, and the well-being of ecosystems. Adopting a circular economy not only addresses the pressing environmental issues of today but also fosters innovation, economic growth, and resilience. It challenges businesses and individuals to rethink how products are designed, used, and reused, ensuring that materials circulate within the economy without entering the environment as waste. CEO, Founder @ OnePointFive | Helping sustainability professionals unlock their potential through practitioner insights
?? Is it worth it to do Masters of Sustainability, or Environmental Management to get skills to land a sustainability role? I don't think so, here's why.. I studied a Masters of Environment Management at Yale University, and <10% of the *green skills* I learned were applicable to my day-to-day job It was an expensive investment, both of time and money, and served more as a "checkbox" social validation of my smarts, not my skills to do the job For those looking to get into sustainability professional & consulting roles today, I believe there are cheaper & more effective alternatives, including: 1?? Micro-credentials focused on applied learning & practical upskilling ?? OnePointFive (opf.degree) Academy certification for early to mid-career professionals https://lnkd.in/er5HJeE2 ?? Terra.do solutions-based courses for bespoke topics https://www.terra.do/ ..but note these credentials require a commitment of your learning & upskilling, and you only get out what you put in 2?? Online courses focused on key sustainability standards ?? Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) for youtube intro to carbon accounting video https://lnkd.in/e2CR-mdz ?? FSB Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) for climate risk / mandates https://lnkd.in/emApKRj2 ?? IFRS Foundation for net-zero commitments https://lnkd.in/evCexm_7 ..but note these courses can get outdated quickly, can be theoretical, and only focus on one piece of the end-to-end net-zero pathway 3?? Join a climate career community & job platform directly ?? Work on Climate to find your climate jobs tribe & resources https://workonclimate.org/ ?? Climate People for tips on getting climate tech jobs https://lnkd.in/eFJAsXu8 ?? Climatebase for climate jobs database & platform https://climatebase.org/ In summary, Masters Programs are not for everyone, and you don't need one to work as a sustainability professional or consultant Invest instead into the "future of" professional upskilling & climate careers through courses, credentials, and communities
