关于我们
Our Mission Pike County Conservation District (PCCD) is committed to the long-term protection and sustainable use of Pike County's natural resources. We accomplish this through partnership, education, technical assistance, planning, enforcement, and leadership. History PCCD was created by the Pike County Commissioners in 1956 and is a legal subdivision of state government. The District is governed by a Board of Directors who meet monthly to help plan programs, guide staff, and coordinate efforts which provide conservation assistance and education in Pike County. District staff provide technical assistance for residents on natural resource and watershed conservation, groundwater protection, grant writing, and program administration.

Even if you haven't heard of "nature play," you've probably taken part in it. Building snowmen and igloos are just a couple examples of nature play, or activities that take place outside, are open-ended, and unstructured. Nature play encourages young kids - and the young at heart! - to form a connection with nature, inspiring them to protect our natural resources now and later for others to enjoy. With the snowy weather, we also need to prepare for icy conditions. Salt mixes commonly known as road salt, ice melt, or rock salt can help limit dangerous ice on roads and walkways, but excess amounts of these mixes can have negative effects on our local waterways. Luckily, there are things we can each do when using salt mixes to prevent their travel into streams while still gaining their safety benefits. Though stormwater runoff is a necessary part of the water cycle, it can also cause issues for homeowners, like runoff flowing towards your house and ponding against the foundation, gravel driveways being washed out, and erosion rills being formed throughout your lawn. Luckily, with some stormwater best management practices, (BMPs), issues resulting from stormwater runoff can be avoided.?
