关于我们
Pacific Island Knowledge 2 Action Resources (PIK2AR / pick-tar) is a community based 501C3 non-profit organization operating out of Salt Lake City, Utah. PIK2AR is an ecosystem of events, programs and services that provide culturally relevant connections to resources and empowering opportunities to uplift the Pacific Island, and other marginalized, communities. We give our communities hope and dignity as they move to higher grounds in their personal and professional lives. PIK2AR's 3 areas of focus are: Arts & Humanities, Economic Development, and Empowered Living Services. Arts & Humanities sector focuses on showcasing and developing all forms of Pacific Island Art from traditional mediums to more modern art forms. Our Arts program is Pasifika Enriching Arts of Utah (PEAU, peh-ow). PEAU's goal is to anchor all of our Pasifika Artists to what's great about Pacific Island culture and it begins with learning our history and creating collectively. Also under PEAU is the Utah Pacific Island Film Series and PEAU Literary. For Economic Development, we have our Pacific Island Chamber of Commerce with chapters in Salt Lake, Utah County and Arizona. PICC connects all overlooked community members to culturally relevant business resources and opportunities. Our MOU partners are the SBA and National ACE. Empowered Living Services focuses on education and support. PIK2AR was founded on Domestic Violence Education and Prevention. ELS provides confidential, culturally relevant direct services, with no barriers and wrap around services 24/7 when needed. ELS connects you to the appropriate local social service resources. We have a Pacific Islander men led group K.A.V.A. Talks (Knowledge Above Violence Always) that focuses on peer support for our Pacific Island Men. We have support groups for women 18 years and older and a separate group for high school aged young women.

I got to spend some time with my Aunt Anne a few nights who is married to my Moms older brother, the late Elder Ronald Poelman. She has taught at the University of Utah for 49.5 years and has retired this year! What an accomplishment. As I introduced her as Dr Anne Osborn (she is not just a Dr but a world renowned brain researcher and Author, google her) she would say call me Annie. Such a humble, down to earth example she is. She is real and I would say is a trademark of my family. All accomplished but down to earth, real people. I am truly blessed to be a member of this family. All Gods doing!! Thank you and Congratulations Annie for 49.5 years of educating, pouring into young people's minds and hearts!

I just returned from DC celebrating AAPI Heritage Month and in some spaces I felt seen, wanted and in some spaces I wondered if I was the token. I have many AA friends and advocates that understand it and have empathy for the PI half. #realtalk
This is the problem of putting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders together. Pacific Islanders are erased. Pacific Islanders are not considered "model minorities". Too often we see things like this that say AAPI with no Pacific Island relevancy. So Happy AANHPI Heritage Month to Pacific Islanders that continually are dismissed in the AAPI space, if Pacific Islanders are not included please call it what it is. Asian American period!!

We are so excited for the 4th Annual Masima Film Tour, the Pacific Island film festival. We had more films submitted for consideration then in previous years. To see Pacific Island stories on the big screen and or films made by Pacific Islanders was a dream. Thank you to our partner Salt Lake Film Society and sponsors the dream has become a reality. To see Pacific Island actors and actress, for our youth to see themselves on the big screen, to be able to tell stories from a Pacific Islanders view, to share our rich history with other communities use to be unimaginable. The Masima Film Tour pass is available for purchase to see all films over the 7 days screening.
Masima Film Tour, the Pacific Island Film Festival pass is available for purchase at www.slfs.org. Click on "Now Playing" and then Masima Film Tour. See every film all week! See you opening night Friday May 17, 2024!
