ERCES, or Public Safety DAS (distributed antenna system), is an antenna-based system that ensures first responders and safety officials maintain mission-critical radio communications during emergency situations within building structures of all sizes. Pierson Wireless worked closely with the City of Graham's Fire Inspector on this location's grid and DAQ (delivered audio quality) testing and confirmed for our customer an ERCES would be required to provide first responders reliable radio coverage, a code-related consultation role we provide to any potential public safety customer. The effects of Hurricane Helene have been devastating, particularly in the mountains of North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, located just 100 miles West of our Charlotte headquarters. Pierson Wireless has been assisting those affected by providing telecommunications solutions and support in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee, specifically engaging with a local fire department that lost its station to the disaster and offering support to numerous regional healthcare providers. Our teams deployed a diverse group of assets, including a 53-foot mobile communications trailer with a portable generator power unit and standalone wireless network. These assets were a valuable assist to the fire department, community, and other supporters, allowing them to quickly establish a critical rallying dispatch and rallying center for the surrounding area’s communities. Additionally, the Pierson Wireless Network in a Truck solution has been supporting connectivity needs anywhere it goes via a GMC pickup custom-modified by our fleet team. It can access most locations to ingress and egress our array of light- to medium-weight portable network solutions. These assets are instrumental in providing the much-needed connectivity facilitated by Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communications satellites serving as either temporary or permanent internet backhaul, which Pierson Wireless then distributes both locally and wirelessly via various LAN, Wi-Fi, and private cellular network configurations we developed for internal and external use cases. Effective and efficient communication is paramount in emergencies, and these assets will play a pivotal role in coordinating the work. The recovery response across all of the affected areas has been inspiring. The citizens, individuals, and groups supporting these communities have shown a spirit and determination to rebuild.
